Five basketball Cats were named to the Southeastern Conference’s 2014 winter honor roll. Round of applause for Tod Lanter, Brian Long, Sam Malone, Jarrod Polson & Alex Poythress, who helped carry the team to a GPA over 3.0 once again.

Bob Knight, you were saying?

Never underestimate the power of a walk on.

Bob Knight is an idiot and a jackass but I’m not really sure three walk-ons getting it done in class proves much of anything. In fact using them as some sort of counterpoint is pretty embarrassing.

Do whut? earlier today:“After the stress we all went through following last year’s team and the ridiculous hype and expectations THIS website played a major role in creating Franklin has the balls and the apparent inability to garner wisdom to such a degree he has already made a 40-0 reference himself?! Seriously?! How do you even go down that road?! Why would you go down that road?! And once again we’re off to the races and already making plans for Louisville, Cleveland, Indianapolis and 40-0 before the spring game. The FOOTBALL spring game. God forbid we wait for this team to even meet each other. And why enjoy the season one game at a time when you can set everyone up for total disappoint by making the entire season hinge on a championship? Friggin’ children.

Step away from the internet for a while. Geez, man……

    walk-ons = Higher Team GPA

That’s the only reason you have slow, short white guys!

I look for Cal to add another nerdy nuclear scientist type kid as a walk-on next year, with the graduation of Polson.

I’m curious to know what the team GPA would be without the walk-ons. We know AP is a great student but what about the other guys?

OK, some of you idiots, let’s do a little simple math:

    UK’s team GPA was 3.1.

There were 16 total players on the roster (including walk-ons).

There are 5 players listed above.

    That leaves 11 other players.

Now, let’s assume the cumulative GPA of these 5 players listed above was 3.75 (it probably wasn’t that high, but let’s just assume).

That means the other 11 players would need to have a cumulative GPA of over 2.8 for the overall team GPA to be at 3.1.

Further, if one adds in scholarship players Polson and Poythress with the other 10 scholarship players, and then counts the 4 walk-ons separately, the cumulative GPA of the scholarship players (once again using a cumulative a 3.75 GPA average for the walk-ons) would have to be around 2.9.

    There you go, idiots.

Once a week, at least in football or basketball season, do a mid-afternoon show. The station’s ratings won’t suffer, and I’ll listen for sure.

Something to get excited about, guys: For the first time in 7 years, Cal will start a point guard all season that started all season before. Rose, Evans, Wall/Bledsoe, Knight, Teague, Harrow, Harrison. Andrew will be the first time since he got here that Cal won’t be teaching his point guard how to run his team (yes, Harrow practiced a year, but he didn’t have game experience with Cal and it showed). He has his floor leader returning for the first time.

Andrew Harrison returning is the most important returnee Cal has had.

Karl Towns Jr. has a GPA over 4.0 and takes mostly advanced placement classes. He plans on majoring in Kinesiology. Trey Lyles has a 3.8 GPA. Tyler Ulis has at least a 3.0 GPA. Devin Booker has a 3.81 GPA. I don’t think we’ll have any problems next year with our team GPA. There is a very good chance it goes up.
