After two seasons and three meetings with the Cards, Willie Cauley-Stein gets the UK/UofL rivalry. “They hate us. We’re Kentucky and they’re Louisville,” Willie told reporters this afternoon. In fact, he said he’s looking forward to a hostile crowd at the Yum Center tomorrow. “It’s a really fun environment because they hate us. It’s fun to play in those conditions.”
Willie was injured during the last meeting between the Cats and the Cards in the Sweet 16, and in the two games prior to that, he didn’t score much (6 points in 2012, 2 in 2013), but was a factor on the boards, grabbing 18 rebounds. Willie’s a totally different player than he was in December of last year, and tomorrow, he’ll be partially responsible for shutting down Montrezl Harrell. In what will be a rowdy Yum Center in the Cats’ first true road game, Willie says bring it on. “This is going to be the craziest first road game for even us. I can only imagine what it’ll be like for the freshmen. Right when you walk in the gym, dudes are going to be yelling at you, cussing at you. You just have to smile like, ‘This is it. This is game time. This will be fun.’ ”
It’ll be really fun at about 4:15 tomorrow afternoon.
