University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Will Nick Richards enter the NBA Draft? We’ll find out today…

We now know what the future holds for almost every Wildcat from last season’s roster, but one question mark still remains: Nick Richards.

Will he join PJ Washington, Tyler Herro and Keldon Johnson as certainties for the NBA Draft? Or will he be more like EJ Montgomery, who’s entering the draft to “test the waters” while leaving the door open for a return to Kentucky?

Will he join Jemarl Baker in the transfer portal? Or will he team-up once again with Ashton Hagans and Immanuel Quickley in Lexington for the 2019-20 season?

We may not be able to completely solve the puzzle by the end of today, but we’ll have a better idea: the deadline for entering the NBA Draft is Sunday, April 21 at midnight.

Richards’ teammates have taken to social media to announce their own decisions, but Richards has not posted any news on his personal accounts at this time. UK Athletics would also dedicate a post to Richards once his decision is finalized, no matter the outcome of that decision. For example:

Staying in the Draft:

Testing the waters:

Staying at Kentucky:

Is no news good news for the Wildcats? Or, does no announcement mean the staff doesn’t know what Richards has decided to do next season? Maybe Nick Richards hasn’t yet decided for himself.

As of now, there’s no clear answer and there are a lot of questions. Will we have the chance to see a Junior Nick Richards in action? If he does decide to enter the Draft – even if it’s just for feedback – we’ll know by tonight at midnight. Otherwise, we’ll be back to playing the waiting game.

We’ve been waiting 2+ years for Nick to develop into more than just a role player with 5 fouls to give ; waiting another 7+ hrs will be easy.

Most of you claim Cal develops kids for the NBA while all other coaches do nothing. Well here is another of many examples of a kid getting lost as Cal has no NBA faith in him. No way he is a draft pick potential this year but he is probably frustrated. Comes in #1 C in the country and after year 2 Cal plays him 5 minutes in the last 2 games of the year, 1 of which we needed a rim protector. I am betting on him to transfer as Cal has not showed any faith in him, and if the Va Tech guy comes here Nick will get to watch him play like he watched Travis. Not the kids fault, does not seem to get much of an opportunity, same thing that led many others to transfer away. He may wait and see what happens, he should, as if EJ leaves {which I doubt until next season} we will need Nick even if the transfer comes. If transfer does not come here we need Nick, hope he takes his time and makes the right decision.

Like clockwork, here comes the Lord of Whine aka Mashburnfan with yet another negative post. You sit there and say we all have opinions, blah, blah, blah, Cal sucks, the basketball program is doomed, blah blah, and NEVER say anything positive related to Cal. Has he done ANYTHING that’s made you happy? WTF were thinking after they won it all in 2012? You seem so dang salty all of the time that I can’t even begin to imagine you celebrating anything related to UK basketball. Were you talking this much crap about BCG, or Tubby, or better yet Joe B? Cal has a better record than either of those three so I’m assuming you hated on them too right??

I don’t get the hate for Richards. I love the kid. The exact same people who say he sucks, or has been a bust, or hasn’t turned into a stud are the same ones who complain about: kids not staying long enough to develop under Cal’s system, kids leaving too early, kids getting recruited over and leaving yada yada yada. Here we have a guy who has great potential and everyone just dumps in him because he’s not a star yet. We have the perfect example of a kid taking his time and developing naturally. He may, or may not be a star someday, none of us know that. Also, he’s at least a bazillion times better at basketball than any knuckledraggers posting on this site.

No kidding. “We need veterans, hate one and done, ruining the game, it’s all about the draft: THIS GUY SUCKS, HE IS A JUNIOR AND STILL HERE! CAL CANNOT DEVELOP TALENT!!” Blah blah blah. Look, kids develop at different times. If Nick gets a mean baby hook and drop step move and learns to pop from 12-15, which is all just time in the gym, he will be the guy everyone says we need, and I hope to God the people who trashed him stand up and say “great example of a guy persevering and working to make the League.” I suspect they will complain it wasn’t sooner but Hope Springs Eternal.

I mean if he had the same opportunities as the others, IMO he would help us. For some reason tho he doesn’t get the same PT as the others even if he is playing good. We don’t see everything as in the classrooms, practice and such, but I hope he comes back he’s a big time player just waiting to get his opportunity!!!

Duke’s blog has nowhere near the assinine, ugly comments that we have on here, and I know most of these clowns are NOT actually UK fans, but kids reading it don’t necessarily watch the farcical posts that we know are trolls and disregard them. It doesn’t need to be a cheerleading section and snowflake zone to just exercise some common decency. Calling these kids names and trashing them is out of hand and probably does cost us a recruit or two. KSR, u know the offenders, pls flag them, warn them and if they can’t behave, block them. Anonymity is not a license to be a jerk.

Well to save nick and ej time here’s what their gonna hear from the NBA. Learn how to play basketball, you know shooting, Defense and try not to fall for every head fake from as far away as Louisville. Then come back when you figure that out.

The NBA may want Nick because of potential and UK wants him to stay for the same reason. Near 7 foot, runs well and has touch. Needs to go all in this off season and push himself to never be outworked and to play defense more with his feet. Get to work Big man.

There were times this seasons you couldn’t play him. However I thought he improved a little bit if he improves the same amount he would be a solid center next year. Even if he doesn’t reach his potential. Some of you seem to forget by the end of his freshman season he couldn’t even play against average teams. I think we’re to a point where he just needs to make a little more improvement to be on the floor with almost any team. I think the reason the coaches seem so frustrated as he’s not that far away. Closer than most think to making a difference. Also Montgomery was the other length guy. Ill take him back all day long as a junior. If you’re in your 20s, the way it works is when players actually come back year after year, lots of players blossom their junior or senior year. Some don’t….

Richards biggest problem IMO is he fumbling hands. We had a kid like this once and what helped him was juggling tennis balls. It really strengthened his eye and hand coordination and man he was different after doing this every day for two months. Wonder if it could help Richards. Couldn’t hurt right??

I would also like to point out that Richards had 17 rebounds in one game. That’s not a fluke, he just needs to gain confidence. I’m hoping he sticks around for another year… Nazr Mohammed is one that comes to mind for me that flipped peoples opinions in one season

I ran into Nick at a college volleyball tournament in Louisville. He was watching his girlfriend, Leah Edmond. Leah is an All American, and an absolute stud vb player. Maybe some of that will rub off on Nick. He got a late start with basketball. I think he just needs more court time to learn. Seemed like a nice guy in the very little time I talked to him. Humble and quiet. Let’s get behind him and support him, rather than tearing him down. UK needs a player like him to develop. His offense has shown good signs- that hook shot could be deadly if he continues to work on it.
