Where did Kentucky land in the preseason coaches poll?

cal

The preseason college basketball coaches poll is out and a panel of 32 Division I head coaches believe Kentucky is the fourth best team in the country. First is Duke (predictably), followed by Kansas and Villanova. Despite the #4 ranking, it’s worth noting that Kentucky did receive two first-place votes, the second most of any team on the list.

I would be ok with this even if UK was #10 in the preseason. #10 would probably be more accurate anyway. I totally believe this team will march up those rankings and be at least pushing on the top 3 by the end of December, but the reality is that we will be starting 3-4 freshman. Those are really good freshman with tons of talent, but there are going to be adjustments in both player habits and team chemistry and strategy. There is no reason to believe this team should be ranked any higher than #4.

As long as UK has more players drafted come June 2017, I really don’t care where UK is ranked

Wow… Take a deep breath. Guess i should have clarified that I was being sarcastic. Truth is, as much as I like to see UK at the top, as long as they are #1 come April, that is all that matters.

I’m good with #4 preseason, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Cats take a loss or two pre-conference and float somewhere around #10 heading into SEC play. Also wouldn’t be surprised at an SEC road loss or two, and it might be to someone we don’t expect. Young team playing on the road in those always hostile SEC road game environments will probably result in a loss or two. I expect to see us heading into the post season with about 4 losses, and hopefully with a full head of steam.
