What they’re saying after the win over the Heels

ESPN’s CL Brown on Kentucky’s outside shooting:

Carolina’s game plan was to force outside shots. The Tar Heels had never played zone before Saturday’s game, but tried both a 2-3 early in the game and a 1-3-1 at one point in the second half. The Cats’ shooting rendered both zones ineffective.

Aaron Harrison, he of the big 3-point shots in the NCAA tournament run, had been shooting just 22 percent from 3-point range this season but was 3-for-7 against the Tar Heels. Tyler Ulis kept their defense honest by making one. And Devin Booker, who has led the team in 3s this season, scored 15 points and was perfect in three attempts from behind the arc.

That means the formula to beat Kentucky — or at least, what had seemed like would beat Kentucky — has been altered.

Our favorite fellow, Pat Forde, on WCS:

Cauley-Stein came to Kentucky a lavishly gifted athlete but a raw basketball player. His foul shooting was a nightmare (37 percent as a freshman) and his offensive skill almost non-existent beyond dunks. Now he’s making 63 percent of his free throws and can score with either hand, even if he’s not a shooter.

Most Wildcats don’t stick around long enough to develop the way the former high school wide receiver has. It’s been something to watch — and there is no telling where his game may top out.

SI’s Seth Davis on Kentucky’s ‘undefeated potential’:

CBS Sports’ Sam Vecenie on the Cats’ defense:

The defense continued its spectacular play as well, as the 70 points scored by UNC were more indicative of pace rather than defense. And speaking of pace, John Calipari spoke after the game in an interview on CBS about how the Wildcats don’t really know how they want to play yet. Well, they’ve now played slow games against Providence and Columbia, as well as fast games against North Carolina and Boston University. The defense has held true in all of them.

ESPN’s Seth Greenberg:

THE Bomani Jones:

Saved the best for last.
