Westgate LV lists Kentucky as the favorite to win the title

KSR-9684

While our pets’ heads are falling off here in Lexington, many people outside of the Big Blue Nation see the Wildcats as a legit title contender in the NCAA tournament.

In fact, the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook, known as the world’s largest sports book, currently lists Kentucky as the favorite to win it all at 6-to-1.

No. 3 Kansas is next at 7-to-1 odds; followed by No. 10 Duke, No. 1 Gonzaga and No. 5 UCLA, all at 8-to-1 odds for the championship.

This says Las Vegas respectfully disagrees with the “No way this team reaches the Elite Eight” and “They won’t make the second weekend” crowds.

I’ll be the first one to admit I’m wrong if they win it all, but c’mon, did we play a final 4 team last night?

Agree with what Matt said, our odds are probably “bet down” because so many UK fans bet on Kentucky to win it all. Likely a bit distorted.

Droofus at it again. Good Lord how does this guy get dressed in the morning in his own. UK fans have bet UK to the favorite. No one in the right mind even has this team in their Top 8 contenders to win it all. They’re simply not very good.

A.) I don’t get dressed in the morning.

B.) I know it’s a sucker bet but fans like to hear they’re the favorite.

But… we’ve been proving Vegas wrong most of the year.

This is a sucker bet. They are praying the most rabid, and definitely most crazy fan base will bet this. This is a hedge bet to off set the losses they will take on the actual winner. The buildings in LV are tall for a reason

That doesn’t seem to correlate to what’s happening on the court. Based upon on court performance I don’t see it. Would like to see it but would take a monumental turnaround.

Wow. Another instance of the admins of this doing something they spend much of their time railing against. Matt, who clearly abhors biased click-driven sports media for saying/posting drivel in order to generate an overreaction, allowing one of his own to do the same thing.

As a UK fan, I’d rather our fans not walk around town telling everyone that Vegas thinks their team is the favorite….unless you want our fans to look like idiots.

That’s a bit of an over reaction. Would you rather him not report it at all? Vegas odds are educated best guesses based on betting patterns over the long run. They aren’t concrete predictors. The tournament is random and every single team is less likely to win it than win it in the end, no matter what Vegas thinks.

I don’t care what the Vegas line is. You don’t win in the tournament without defense.

Yeah, This is Vegas we are talking about, right? They are in the business of making money, not paying money. This is the perfect thing for them to use, since the current odds of winning the championship for UK are extremely low. People who take this bet will be helping Vegas cover all the other bets they have to pay out.

Purdue at 50/1 and WVU at 25/1 have some good value. In reality Kentucky should be 12/1 or 10/1 at the very best.

Good to see that the legalization of recreational marijuana use in Nevada is already paying dividends. 😉

Like many of you, I have watched every second of every UK game this year. The Cats are 1-4 against the current AP top 25, and it took 47 points and a buzzer-beater by Monk to get the one win. They will not win it all this year. An SEC Championship and trip to the Elite 8 would be a great result for this team.

While I have nothing but admiration for those that are this optimistic in regards to UK’s chances to win the championship, I simply do not see it. Our defense is simply atrocious, especially the perimeter defense, which many believed would be an overwhelming strength prior to the season, but has instead featured matador defense. Furthermore, we have a mediocre rebounding margin (+5.5). Lastly, the most important weakness seems to be a lack of not only leadership, but will to win on this team, which is a product of their overall youth. In short, I can see this team making it to the second weekend, but a Final Four will be a stretch in my opinion.
