We should probably talk about that shot clock violation

Screen Shot 2015-04-05 at 12.47.07 AM

Kentucky lost because it didn’t play well in the final minutes of the game. But. We should at least acknowledge the free points the officials awarded to Wisconsin that tied the game up with less than three minutes to play. I’m not saying it decided the outcome, but it certainly helped.

Even Ice Cube weighed in on the no-call:

It’s so bad I’ve even seen Louisville fans offering up condolences to Big Blue Nation.

I agree, I think the officiating was terrible.

Agree with Drew, the game wasn’t won or lost on that call but from a mental standpoint that certainly was huge for Wisconsin.

Like I said life isn’t fair, this was one of those times.

Very unfortunate but what can you do?

Feel bad for the players who had an incredible season but the onus is also on them for folding like they did in the last five minutes.

You do understand they got two free bs points complements to the referees right? And those to free BS points tied the game with just a few minutes left? Well if you do realize those facts that are video proven then you must state the obvious… The stinking referees decided this game what a crying SHAME. Shame on anyone who has the eyes to see this thing different. On that note I am very proud of my wonderful Kentucky wildcats and our cherished coach!!!!!!!! Great job on this historical season!!!!!! get them next year!!!! GO KENTUCKYWILDCATS!!!!!

Pretty sure the three shot clock violations there were forced were bigger than this one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Both teams got a poor whistle. Wisky got hosed on the Lyles punch and the charge call when try hit a 3. No way was that a charge.

      1:01 am April 5, 2015 Permalink

no way that was a charge. Ok champ. And they sqim move face contact was exaggerated with the flop but was nothing to any1 that actually played ball and has balls

Even Jay Bilas said that charge was a joke. Guess you know more than him though.

Im sure bilas agreed with all calls champ? Fact is, and although i dont agee with the rule, u can charge after passing 2hich happened in this case. Bilas can disagree. Hes wrong, often. But the rule is the rule

Harrison slid under him when he was already in the air. Can’t do that champ.

Decker also cleared with his free arm EVERY SINGLE TIME HE DROVE. Not only did he not get called for them which would have changed the game, OUR players did get called even though he was the one clearing.

I do love the trolls coming out. We missed you for 38 games!

Hard loss. And a preventable loss. But the sheer accomplishment of stringing together that many victories against so many different teams is unreal.

We were the underdog last year and ended Wisconsin’s year. They were ready to do it to us.

    Next year we reload.

While I don’t agree with this being the reasoning, he means that Vegas couldn’t afford us going 40-0. A LOT of people took the 50-1 odds of us going 40-0.

A physical team that drives got how many free throws vegas? Oh they dont foul? Ok vegas, u win

This play would have never happened if three of our players had not watched the ball bounce out of bounds after Willies block.

Heard Vegas was on the hook big time if 40-0 happened. Maybe so. However, these three best of six in the US, made the SEC refs look competent.

Barkley just said if you punch a player in the face and no call you deserve a break on the shot clock play.

    • Lip Man 1
      1:35 am April 5, 2015 Permalink

Last week Barkley also said “Alexander played well” in the first half for Kansas. Alexander hadn’t played since late February because the NCAA was investigating if one of his parents received illegal benefits.

You have to take what Chuck says with a grain of salt since he doesn’t know the college game very well at all.

Its a shame… I think we would have handled Duke. Just had to get over the hump of Wisconsin. Bad calls went both ways and ONCE AGAIN, the refs decided the game. Trey should have gotten that foul for the hit and it is silly they didn’t call a shot clock violation….

All I know, we were up by 4 and had every chance to put the game away. We choked and Wisc made the buckets. We missed the free throw, Wisc made theirs….

When we have Booker guarding a 6’10 and 7’0 players on back to back possessions, Cal was right that the blame is with him. The switching defense worked all year long, but not with this team. The adjustments were poor and the players just didn’t have that fire.

Sweet Lord… WHY was the game plan not to have Andrew drive it to the basket every play?!? E…V…E…R….Y… PLAY!! Willie was an absolute non factor and his skills would have been better used as an offensive rebounder. Towns played alright but often found himself taking harder shots away from the basket. The players could have done more but goodness, I think it was coaching on this loss.

The better team lost today and it was just because they didn’t play smart. Andrew running down the clock only to take an air ball shot?? How many time outs did we have? I get Cal’s philosophy of letting the players figure it out but good GOD, we were up by 4 and we blew it.

For UK fans, this will be considered a good season. When you rise so high, folks are going take some hard shots when you lose. So… We lose the whole team to the NBA and start again next year.

    Sigh… I miss Patrick Patterson

You are talking about the three shot clock violations, where we drove the lane had half of wisc team draped all over us with no call right? There is one picture where trey lyles went back up and had a hand on his face.

One thing that I haven’t heard a single person mention, is that it looked like Hayes shot the ball, it didn’t hit anything, and then he caught it and shot again (after the shot clock). Am I missing something on the initial shot? Did it get blocked?

    • ukbradstith
      5:39 pm April 5, 2015 Permalink

No it missed the rim but I think it at least got tipped and maybe got a little backboard, but he didn’t get the putback off in time.

    • ibescootch
      5:46 pm April 5, 2015 Permalink

Yeah, that was the first thing I noticed, not even the shot clock. It just looked like he shot it, came down, jumped again and caught it and tapped it in. So that’s another blown call, regardless of the clear shot clock violation. If you watch the replay, it definitely doesn’t hit the backboard, and the trajectory of the ball doesn’t change at all from when he first shot it, like it wasn’t touched by anyone.
