WATCH: Wenyen Gabriel’s Offseason Boxing Workout

Wenyen Gabriel is hitting the gym this offseason, a different kind of gym.

Spending some time back home in Massachusetts, the Kentucky sophomore-to-be is doing a different kind of training this offseason.  On top of his normal basketball regimen, Gabriel is training in the boxing ring.

First off, his length would be terrifying in a boxing match.  How could anyone touch him?  Second, that does not look like the Wenyen that started 23 games as a freshman.  The once scrawny small forward looks twice the size he did a year ago.

As Sacha Killeya-Jones said, don’t sleep on Wenyen.

If Wenyen was to square up with somebody, his arms would come from outta nowhere and it would be like trying to fight the stretch arm guy from street fighter Dhalsim. You couldn’t get close to him

Should be practicing shooting, because he’ll never be a boxer with that technic

I came here expecting this comment. I believe conditioning and toughness were his two biggest weaknesses. Way to be creative Wenyen, we will need you this season.

Hes got to start somewhere! Its called getting in shape and physically fit, not sitting on your arse doing the same things over and over, hes stepping out of his comfort zone, its only going to make him more confident slugger!

Minutes are going to be hard to come by this year. Defense will keep him on the court this year.

That’s because it isn’t, Nick. Dude in the white shirt is a different person.

Slow hands, looping punches. Get inside of the looping left and he’s down!

Boxing is a great element to cross training. It emphasizes footwork and balance and is great for conditioning/toughness and confidence while working the quick twitch aspect of muscle memory. If he is getting in a session a day of boxing and hoops that would be great
