Friday is unofficially ‘Rex Chapman Day’ at the four-letter network.
ESPN’s Ryan McGee traveled to Lexington earlier this month to profile one of Kentucky’s best. In the first chapter of Chapman’s story, the BBN crowned him King Rex. After a stellar NBA career, his second chapter is plagued by opioid addiction. The third chapter has made him more popular than ever, but in a much different way.
“I was at the SEC tournament last year,” he told McGee. “I went to get my credential, and it was eight to 10 interns, just college students there helping out. I showed them my ID, and they said, ‘Are you Rex Chapman, the guy from Twitter?!’ I went, ‘Yeah, that’s me, getting my credential. Let’s go.'”
McGee penned a lengthy feature on Chapman’s story for ESPN.com. ESPN also released a five-minute teaser of tonight’s program that will air at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. If that’s not enough Rex Chapman content, McGee joined Mina Kimes on today’s ESPN Daily podcast.
