Not only does Kennedy Chandler hold the title as the top point guard out of the class of 2021, but he also backs it up with his explosive play.

Chandler, a 6-foot-1 point guard, is being heavily recruited by John Calipari and the Kentucky coaching staff. Chandler recently participated in a series of scrimmages–at a secret location in Memphis–against elite-level talent, and more than held his own. Memphis Grizzlies rookie Ja Morant, NBA players Ian Clark and Cameron Payne, along with another five-star UK prospect Moussa Cisse, were among the group of hoopers that made up the scrimmages. One-time Kentucky commit, DJ Jeffries, was in attendance, as well.

Watch Chandler work.

Kentucky has been in notable contact with Chandler, as they hosted a virtual meeting with the young guard back in late May. Not long after that, Chandler announced he would be transferring away from his Tennessee-based high school to Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas. He is currently considering the Vols, Memphis, North Carolina, and Duke along with the ‘Cats.

The secret scrimmages have been organized by basketball trainer Jevonte Holmes, who said they initially began as training sessions before evolving into a social media spectacle.

“When these hoop sessions started happening, it was just training,” Jevonte Holmes said, according to the Daily Memphian. “… We trained for a while, but then we said, ‘We have to get some games in.’ So, when we got to Phase 2 (of coronavirus protocol), that’s when we opened it up and started playing pickup games. We have 15 guys playing each time.”

Morant, who is likely to win the NBA’s Rookie of the Year honor, was apparently coaching up Chandler along the way. The two do share some similarities in their games and have a knack for making something out of nothing.

“I usually don’t play against guys that are faster than me,” Chandler said, according to the Daily Memphian.(Morant) is even faster. That’s definitely a challenge, but playing against him definitely makes everything more fun.

If you want even more action from these secret runs, then check out the video below. Not only is it 10 minutes of entertaining basketball, but it focuses mainly on Chandler and Morant.

Chandler reminds me a bit of Kyrie Irving.

If that was Cisse in red, quick guards are a problem for him. Bites a lot on the ball fake.
