Nick Richards finished his big night against Texas Tech with a game-high 25 points to go along with 14 rebounds and zero turnovers in a career-high 39 minutes. He shot 7-of-10 from the field and 11-14 from the free-throw line (including 5-of-5 during overtime). For the eighth time in 19 games this season, Richards notched a double-double; before that, he had earned just one throughout 74 games.
Richards and fellow veteran Immanuel Quickley, who finished with 21 points, were the only two Wildcats to hit double-digit scoring against the Raiders Saturday night. Nate Sestina fouled out with eight points, Tyrese Maxey had seven, and Ashton Hagans added six of his own. It’s safe to say the Cats couldn’t have won Saturday night without the massive efforts by Nick Richards, and his head coach wanted the team to know that.
In a new video from the Kentucky basketball twitter account, you can see for yourself how Calipari thanks Richards for his contributions… When Coach Cal goes in for the forehead kiss, all Nick Richards can say is “Oh my God.”
Not to be outdone by his coach, Ashton Hagans followed up the moment by dumping an entire water bottle on his teammates’ head.
We’ve had elite players and plenty of unforgettable performances before,
Yet no one has ever gotten a @ukcoachcalipari ?.

Cal prefaced the forehead kiss by saying “a bunch of you in this room, at the very least — I’ll do it for you.” After the game, he explained himself.
“I kissed Nick on the forehead and said there are about three of you in this room that need to do this, but I will do it for you. So I kissed him on the forehead,” Calipari told reporters after the game. “Nick was unbelievable.”
And that’s when you know you’ve done a good job.
