WATCH: 1978 Reunion Press Conference

@KentuckyMBB

The 1978 Kentucky national championship team will be honored this weekend as UK Athletics continues to honor its best teams of the past. The ’78 Cats have a lot of big things planned for their reunion, including an appearance at Saturday’s game against Missouri in Rupp Arena.

But before all the fun gets underway in the days ahead, assistant coach Dick Parsons (filling in for Joe B. Hall, who is under the weather), Jack Givens and Kyle Macy were available to the media to take questions about that magical season and this weekend’s reunion in Lexington.

You can hear everything they had to say in this video:

    I remember the Championship game against Duke fondly; from Duke’s silly zone with the big hole in the middle, to Givens’ 41 points, to James Lee’s thunderous dunk to end the game.
    Actually, we would have beaten Duke by 15-20 points; but, Coach Hall put the subs in with seems like 4 minutes left in the game.
    The Goose looks good; and, his voice could charm a rattlesnake. HIs tribute to Mike Phillips, with tears in his eyes, was very touching.
    We lost Mike to an accident in his home in Madisonville in 2015. RIP Big Guy.

    Could the picture have been taken from a little further away? I can almost make out a couple faces as is.

      I believe he was a freshman on the ’78 team.
      I also recall that Michigan State was our toughest opponent in the run. There was no shot clock, and once we had a slim lead, Macy just dribbled around until they were forced to foul him…and he was automatic from the line.
      Duke was not in the same league as UK, Michigan State and Arkansas. We subbed with a 14 point lead, and they cut it to four…oops, had to put the starters back in.
