Waiting in the rain for limited spots in Tent City

camp-rain1

It’s pouring down rain in Lexington today, yet several eager Big Blue Madness campers are still lined up across the street from Memorial Coliseum, awaiting the horn tomorrow morning at 5 am. Many of the seats you see lining Avenue of Champions are empty, but there are still plenty of fans waiting it out in the bad weather.

Once the campout officially begins tomorrow, spots will be very limited compared to years past. With the new UK bookstore taking up what used to be the blue courts, that area behind Memorial has very little room for tents.

Notice the NO CAMPING warnings in the North corner outside Memorial. This used to be a very popular area in Tent City:

It will be a fight to find some good property in the morning.

I don’t know who at UK decided to limit the camping area but,in my opinion, it was not a smart thing to do.

People have camped in those spots for years. I know the people who were some of the first ever to camp there back in the Billy days. Dumb to not let them anymore.

Can someone explain what the advantage is for someone waiting across the street today over somebody who shows up at 4:30 a.m. tomorrow morning with tent in hand?

The difference in the two situations is that at 4:30 everyone is already lined up. So if someone shows up they would be in the back of the line as opposed to the front. It’s all in the seating of the tickets distributed. The front lines get bottom sections as opposed to upper section tickets. Basically better seats is the only major difference.

Anyone interested in 2 season tickets in sec. 228, row w, aisle seats…. face value…about $1950. I have had these seats for 20 years but have gravel plans this spring.

If the police nabbed all the dope and booze there,I wonder how many “big bleu dummies” would show up.
