VIDEO: Calipari ejected from the South Carolina game

Well, that escalated quickly. Two and a half minutes into the game, John Calipari completely lost it after South Carolina’s Michael Carrera crashed the boards. Doug Sirmons called a quick technical on Cal, after which Calipari became furious and his players had to restrain him, leading to a second technical foul and the ejection. Watch it all go down:
Here it is from Drew’s point of view in Columbia:

This is Calipari’s second ejection at South Carolina in the past two years, the first coming in 2014 during the loss after which Aaron Harrison famously predicted that the rest of the season could still be a “great story.”
What is it about Calipari and Columbia?

At least Cal didn’t flip off the arena on the way out…
Well that was just stupid! You’re team needs you out there and you act like that.
Well that was just stupid! Using you’re in place of your!
You’re an idiot! Our guys are getting killed out there and no calls. The second technical was pure BS! Love seeing Cal stick up for our players.
There is sticking up for your players and then there knowing when not to lose your cool. He knows that he and that ref don’t get along and something like this would probably happen. He can best stick up for his players by being out there on the bench with them, not off in the locker room where he can’t help them.
That was a total Hoosiers moment VJP. He intentionally got himself ejected just to light a fire under the team and so Ulis and the assistant staff could bring it home. So far it’s been working brilliantly.
If you have been listening to what Cal has and hasn’t been saying, this wasn’t really a surprise – its been brewing. There is more to this, I am betting.
GO CATS!!
i wish they would eject Briscoe!
Why? He’s been great!!! No one gets to the rock like Briscoe. He’s getting better and better about his decision making too. He’s an absolute nuisance to opposing teams on D too.
cats paw is a known troll and hater.
Just call him an idiot like everyone else around here has….
This is just terrible officiating by the crew. After a ref t’s up a coach, another ref should be over there as a buffer, ignoring the coach so he can cool down. For one ref to call consecutive Ts like that is an embarrassment. They aren’t supposed to be seen and heard that much.
Best response? Go out and do what they are doing– double digit win on the road in the SEC!!!!
Just a guess, but I am betting the players are wanting this win even more now.
TAKE IT, BLUE!
Double digit blow-out against the SEC’s 2nd best record team on the road the way it’s looking!
Punk move by a punk official. He is probably the same one that decided Ulis’s three was not a three. I am so tired of poor officiating both home and on the road. We’ve had two games at home where the visitor has made more free throws than we shot. It is the only way South Carolina can win this game is for the refs to hand it to them.
I hear there are top-notch canolis in the locker room.
1st this is another poorly written article. TT are you watching the game? The 2nd tech happened BEFORE Cal really lost it and had to be restrained. I’m sure Cal knew he would get a T and he was trying to get a point across. The 2nd T had to be something he said {and it must have been a direct shot at Sirmons} as Cal was not real demonstrative, was out of the box but that always happens after a T and if that was the reason Sirmons should be suspended. NCAA should look at this entire game, been horrible calls both ways on plays that should be easy to call. Hope we get to hear the truth about what Cal actually said before we can say if it was justified or not, did not look like it but have no idea what Cal said. Based on how Cal acted after the ejection it seems like Sirmons was wrong.
All year long the Ref;s have been inconsistent when calling fouls against Kentucky as opposed to the other teams they are playing. Coach Cal’s reaction, I think, was not only the mugging he witnessed but was a cumulative reaction to the historical issues with Referee Sirmons (who has a documented history of biased against UK and/or Coach Cal) calling the “T” and running across the floor and, and yes Coach Cal was animated and upset, wanting answers.
There is no doubt that Coach Cal was highly upset and I was pleased with the way the players responded beating a good South Carolina team on the road.
Something has to be done between UK as a University and member of the NCAA and how referees are calling fouls against Kentucky many of which were non-existent (as proven in replays) and/or so many times UK gets fouled and the referees turn into mutes. Though this problem came to a head in today’s game I hope UK fans, Coach Cal, etc. let it be known that we are watching and the injustices need to cease forthwith.
Thanks to everyone at KSR and Mrs. Tyler Thompson and for all the comments on this post and others.
Take care and may God bless you and yours…always.
Thought Cal got exactly what he wanted and deserved…
I don’t think Cal would jeopardize an SEC road game against South Carolina just to make a point or to pump up his coaching staff. Wrong time of season to be playing head games with his staff.
