Vernon Carey Jr. on James Wiseman: I wouldn’t be surprised if we go to school together”

We talked several times on KSR about a dream scenario of Vernon Carey Jr. and James Wiseman forming a DeMarcus Cousins/Anthony Davis v2 frontcourt at Kentucky in 2019.

Could James Wiseman and Vernon Carey Jr. become Davis and Cousins v.2?

This weekend, 2019 No. 2 overall prospect Carey Jr. didn’t do much to shut down those dreams for the Big Blue Nation…

In an interview with Kyle Tucker of SEC Country, Carey said he “wouldn’t be surprised” if he teamed up with Wiseman in college.

“Me and James talk a lot, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we go to school together,” said Carey, “He’s going to do the best thing for him and I’ll do the best thing for me. [If we play together], I feel like it would just be interchangeable.”

The 6-foot-10, 245-pound center also said he talks to former Wildcat big man Bam Adebayo on a regular basis, who tells him Kentucky is the school to go to if he has NBA dreams.

“[Adebayo] says if you’re trying to go to the league after your first year, that’s the school to go to. Coach Cal is just going to help you develop,” Carey said. “I feel like if you want to go one-and-done, then you just go there.”

Once again, Carey confirmed that John Calipari is in consistent contact with him, making the Brow/Boogie pitch to both he and Wiseman.

“[Calipari] texts me every other day,” Carey said. “He just says look at Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins, just take parts of their game and add it to mine. It feels pretty special for me to get recognized and kind of compared to them.”

Wiseman has said in the past that he would love to play with not only Carey Jr., but Ashton Hagans and Tyrese Maxey as well. Hagans is already committed to Kentucky and likely reclassifying to 2018, and Maxey is likely following suit very soon. Four elite prospects, all four gaining massive steam to Kentucky (or already committed).

Awesome baby!! Seems like Nikey has been handcuffed since they were doing their negative recruiting against Cal!! Looks like Cal is back on top of his game and nothing Nikey or,Capel,Kschepusski, can do about it!! We are the it school again only reason we wasn’t last few years was all the cheating by Nikey to get players to go to other schools!! We are the Kings!!

Um, we’re a Nike school, dude. Why would Nike steer players away from their highest-profile client? Better get a refill for your meds.

Why would Nike be recruiting against us considering we are sponsored by them?

    Hmm.

“[Adebayo] says if you’re trying to go to the league after your first year, that’s the school to go to.”

And we wonder why players feel pressured to leave after their freshman year regardless of how well they played. I love that they want to come play for Cal, but these expectations can’t be healthy for these players’ development.

Or maybe he said that because he went through the program and knows how he progressed along with his teammates and feels it’s the best school to prepare you if you want to make the jump after a year.

Im glad Cal got punched in the eye recruiting. Looks like he is rejuvenated and not taking anything forgranted. I think he will pull together a monster class next year. Depending on who all goes, he could pitch to Wiseman, Carey, and Hurt about playing together because they are all different.
