After starting the season 26-0, San Diego State is no longer undefeated. The No. 4 Aztecs fell victim to a 66-63 upset at the hands of the unranked UNLV Runnin’ Rebels. Before the game, UNLV had a 14-14 record and were the No. 6 team in the Mountain West Conference.
The game was ugly from the start for SDSU, and the Aztecs were trailing by double-digits with four minutes left in the game. They went on an impressive run to cut the lead back to a reasonable margin in the second half, but it was too little, too late. There have only been 19 teams in college basketball history to enter the NCAA Tournament undefeated, and San Diego State’s run at No. 20 is no longer a possibility.

The loss qualified as a Quadrant Three loss for San Diego State’s tournament profile, which could potentially shift their seed from a No. 1 to a No. 2 come Selection Sunday.
March is almost here.
