CatsPause.com’s Darrell Bird is back with more from the scene in Destin, this time regarding Kentucky’s summer basketball trip. The plan is still to go to the Bahamas in mid-August, as we’ve reported multiple times, but it’s still not in the books. One thing that is confirmed, though, is John Calipari wants to play legit competition on the trip, not just tune-up games to show off the team in the preseason.
“The normal summer tour is that you have 10 days of practice. You figure out your team. You try to put in some stuff, see if you like it or don’t like it. Then you go play three bad games and you come back,” Calipari told Bird. “This is a different deal. What we’re trying to do is play good teams that have really good players that will be hard for us to beat.”
Calipari also said the team will be without Willie Cauley-Stein on the trip as he recovers from surgery. That’s more PT for the new guys.
