UK to play Arizo…. BUFFALO in the second round

Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona lost to Buffalo by 21 POINTS in the first round, setting up a Kentucky-Buffalo showdown on Saturday.

Whatever Sean Miller paid his players*, it was too much.

(*Allegedly, of course.)

Guess we don’t have to worry about guarding Ayton.

But our guys best be ready Saturday or we’ll be watching another Florida Gulf Coast-like Cinderella.

So funny bc everyone was commenting on how Ayton would dominate us… never put the 2 before the 1

Buffalo was really impressive and well coached. We better play harder than we did tonight!!

Arizona isn’t that great, but they’re better than that. Miller knows none of it is gonna count after the tourney is over – called off the dogs.

Yeah, he was barely sweating at all in the second half. That’s gotta be a sign of him giving up.

Don’t celebrate too much… those Buffalo kids are animals! They played the best game of any team in the tournament on day one. I know Cal won’t let the Cats get complacent, but I’m more than a little worried about a letdown.

I agree. Buffalo looked REALLY good. Super quick, swarming defense, fearless shot takers. They might be rough.

Where is d’bag John Walton to celebrate the best conference in America? I said the day the brackets were announced that I had no fear about Arizona. Watched them all year, easy to see they were over rated.

Wow. There is no way the stars can align for this team is there? It seems the path just got a little more passable though. This disfunctional team is gonna keep us on the edge of our season a few more games possibly. Never think we’re gonna lose till it is done, but the reality of the teams potential is always in the back of your mind. The ups and downs of this season seem to be never ending. Make it past buffalo and get Vanderbilt back to do what he does again. What a season, what a team this far. Go CATS!

What a collapse by the Pac-12. This is the first time in the ‘power conference’ era (since the Big 12 was formed in 1996) that a major conference has been vaporized in the first round.

Oh, and the SEC is 4-0 so far.

Buffalo played great but to have their type of performance twice in row? Less than a day to prep for the Cats. If we just play harder than them we can win easily.

    • timbo
      6:02 am March 16, 2018 Permalink

The trouble, potentially for us, is they’re game plan can stay the same. Swarm the guards, make them shoot instead of drive, double inside, and out-quick on offense to get to the lane for layups or kick out for three. Just saying, no prep time really needed, they have the right formula already…I just think it won’t work as well against a team that matches/beats their defensive intensity. AZ doesn’t play D, UK does.

Arizona’s players took that loss a lot more gracefully than I would have

    • makeitstop

It was weird, right? Like they were relieved to be done with it. Some of u are too young to remember Eddie Sutton’s last season (Emory Air Freight) but we were all kind of glad to just put that behind us, and I wonder if that’s what happened to ‘Zona or maybe they were just shell shocked. Talk about lame coaching though – they’re a lot nicer in Tuscon than Lexington, Guy has 3 first rounders we wanted and can’t get out of the first round – upset every year, no banners at all. Cal would be wearing a disguise to Kroger if he had that resume!

If they defend the 3 against buffalo like they did against Davidson, it could be a long night

    • CatsfaninFL
      8:06 am March 16, 2018 Permalink

Huh? We held them to 6% under their season average. And if not fot for a last minute barrage when we were up 11, we would have held them at 10% under their season average. They were shooting 29.6% up until the last like minute and a half. Try again.

    • makeitstop
      8:27 am March 16, 2018 Permalink

They were 8/30 >12% under their season average until the last 39 seconds… not that those don’t count but we were protecting a lead and not fouling like a prevent defense. Plus those boys can really shoot! What’s troubling – and I sound like a broken record – is our lack of offensive rebounding, against smaller teams. In the last 2 games of the SECT we got destroyed on the offensive glass, and this team beat us too. That’s what not having JV is causing and if we shoot well it’s not caught up w us, but we’ve fortunate… so far. Healing prayer for ankles please!

  24. makeitstop

Buffalo was well over their season average and that ballooned the lead but really AU was just beat, tired legs from the defensive harassment and lack of bench showed on 2/18 from 3, w a lot of front iron shots. They play 4 guards and a forward and outrebounded AU! Beat them to balls – that ought to be a lesson to us. AU usually gets better than 2:1 assist to TO from Cartwright and he had no assists. We match up much better. They remind me a little or Arkansas, but the hogs are bigger. This was a good break for us!

  25. BamaBlue
    12:01 pm March 16, 2018 Permalink

Buffalo did play a great game but some of those shots were just luck, like the banked in 3’s. It was just their night and everything was falling. I don’t see that happening again. With that being said, they definitely can’t be underestimated.
