UK still #1 in USA Today Coaches Poll, but it’s not unanimous

Screen Shot 2014-12-15 at 1.26.26 PM

As expected, Kentucky is #1 in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll, but unlike the AP poll, it wasn’t unanimous. For the second week in a row, two coaches gave their first place votes to other teams, one Duke and one Arizona. Like we did last week, let’s look over the list of voters and try to guess who it is:

Tommy Amaker, Harvard
Randy Bennett, Saint Mary’s
Jim Boeheim, Syracuse
Todd Bozeman, Morgan State
Glenn Braica, St. Francis Brooklyn
Rick Byrd, Belmont
Scott Cherry, High Point
Tim Cluess, Iona
Ed Conroy, Tulane
Keith Dambrot, Akron
Scott Drew, Baylor
Matt Driscoll, North Florida
Steve Fisher, San Diego State
Bruiser Flint, Drexel
Mark Fox, Georgia
John Gallagher, Hartford
Ray Harper, Western Kentucky
Dick Hunsaker, Utah Valley
George Ivory, Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Ben Jacobson, Northern Iowa
Rob Jeter, Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Danny Kaspar, Texas State
Mike McConathy, Northwestern State
Greg McDermott, Creighton
Matt Painter, Purdue
Dave Paulsen, Bucknell
Randy Rahe, Weber State
Joe Scott, Denver
Herb Sendek, Arizona State
Shaka Smart, Virginia Commonwealth
Bob Williams, UC-Santa Barbara
Mike Young, Wofford

One of them has to be Boeheim, right?

How do they determine which coaches get to vote? Seems to be a lot of obscure coaches at obscure shools. Is the requirement not to be in title contention, and therefore have plenty of time to watch other teams play? Is that Coach Tim Clueless at Iona or Cluess?

We beat louisville and then they beat duke and we get that vote. Not sure who will beat arizona, but someone will. Virginia has to play louisville twice and duke once, I don’t see them winning all three. That leaves no one but us at the top. If we still don’t get the last two votes it’s time to retire the coach’s poll as irrelevant.

Amaker and Boeheim….I hope we get a shot at both of them in the tournament.
