UK Hall of Famer Jack “Goose” Givens Joins UK Sports Network

One of the greatest players in Kentucky basketball history will be joining the UK Sports Network.

UK legend and 1978 NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player Jack “Goose” Givens has been announced as a new addition to pregame broadcasts when the Kentucky men’s basketball team returns to action later this month.

Givens will now co-host the Don Franklin Auto Countdown to Tipoff pregame radio show alongside Dave Baker, who returns for his 34th season with the UK Sports Network. Baker previously co-hosted the show with another UK Hall of Famer, Rex Chapman, who will now work with JMI Sports on new media content.

Givens, who scored 41 points in the 1978 national championship game, will also provide analysis on television for the UK Sports Network as a featured guest on BBN Gameday and BBN Tonight.

“As a kid growing up in Lexington, you dreamed of winning a national championship with Cawood Ledford on the call,” Givens said in the official release. “To have experienced that was an incredible feeling. To now join the network of Cawood Ledford and share my lifelong love of Kentucky basketball with Big Blue Nation is exciting.”

The Don Franklin Auto Countdown to Tipoff pregame show airs 90 minutes prior to all Kentucky men’s basketball games on UK Sports Network affiliates and is also available through the UK Athletics app. A stream of the show is also available on UKathletics.com and on the Kentucky Basketball Facebook page, where fans can ask questions and interact with Baker and Givens.

Once the ball tips, Big Blue Nation will again be guided through game action by The Voice of the Wildcats, Tom Leach, and UK Hall of Famer Mike Pratt. The 2020-21 season marks the 19th season together for the duo, who also host the Ruoff Mortgage Wildcat Wrap Up postgame show, where they are joined each game by a UK basketball player and head coach John Calipari. Keith Elkins returns as the studio host.

I love both Goose and Rex. Rex did a fantastic job on the pregame show. We all know why this decision was made. Again, happy for Goose but c’mon man!!

Not impressed with the UK network’s team other than Leach. Pratt and Givens are too dry.

Can’t wait to get Mr. Elkins back. His calming voice was needed after these last two weeks of football.

I wonder if rex getting involved with McGrath campaign and making political commercials had anything to do with it. U know as long as McConnell been greasing wheels in ky he bound to have several close ties within university. Politicians always want to flex their power every chance they get and forcing rex out was just that even though he is only “reassigned” which is bogus cause he been demoted period

Quite possible that it did. It definitely has everything to do with these negative comments about Rex. Yeah, Rex is not a perfect human being but these people throwing stones are far from it, as we all are. Rex, like Goose, is a UK legend and I don’t think I’m the only one who is glad and grateful that he came to UK, and is still associated with them.

It was a disgrace to have Chapman associated with that show in the first place. He’s an embarrassment to this university and always has been. I wish he went to Louisville.

If he had went to Louisville, they would have beaten us. We don’t win that game without Rex. But then again, you’re no Cat fan anyway, so who cares what you think..Go Cats!!!!

You should be ashamed to put Blue in front of your name…and he’s not gone. He’ll always be a Wildcat legend…

Rex was terrible on the pregame show and I’m glad he played at UK. See how that works? You can think both.

Not a Baker fan, but Rex was terrible. This is certainly a major improvement.
