Good morning, or buenos dias to our friends at Chichen Itza in Mexico. Happy Friday to you all. Who’s ready for the weekend? This person right here. After hanging out with you guys for a few hours, I’m driving up to my old stomping grounds of Danville to see my family before tomorrow’s Women’s Clinic. Might go to Guadalajara or the Pizza Pub. Who knows. It could get crazy.
Lots to do before then. Here’s what’s on today’s docket…
Jamal Murray and Canada play USA
Murray turned in another impressive performance last night in Canada’s win over Mexico, putting up fourteen points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Once again, he impressed, and we’ll get to see him play again tonight as Canada takes on Team USA, who looked pitiful last night against Brazil. I’m patriotic and have the American flag gear to prove it, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t cheering for Murray and his fellow Canucks tonight at 6 p.m.
Here are Murray’s highlights from last night, courtesy of our pal UK Basketball Live:
Mark Stoops speaks at the UK Football Kickoff Luncheon
Drew Franklin will be there to bring you any news, along with a detailed review of the Hyatt Regency’s lunch offerings. The event starts at noon and will feature remarks from Stoops, Shannon Dawson, and DJ Eliot. We’ll post any breaking news as soon as it happens, but considering Stoops has been repeating the same stump speech for the past few weeks, I doubt we’ll hear anything groundbreaking. You never know, though.
The final July evaluation period continues in Vegas
Yesterday, John Calipari watched point guard Dennis Smith in the adidas Summer Championships, one of three major recruiting events happening in Sin City this weekend. Pretty much all of the nation’s top talent is in Vegas right now, which means John Calipari will be too. Stay tuned to the site throughout the day for updates.
Hopefully Dakari Johnson calls his mother back
Give Makini some love, Dakari!
Check out my appearance on the Blue State Podcast
Earlier this week, the guys from Blue State Podcast asked me to come on their show, so I did, and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you’ve ever been curious how I ended up with this job or my thoughts on being a female sportswriter, my fellow media members, or my favorite craft beers, check it out.
The Blue State boys requested more craft beer talk on KSR, and although it seems weird to include this with the morning post, I encourage you hop lovers to check out Good People IPA. I realize you can’t throw an artisan beer nut without hitting an IPA these days, but Good People’s is my favorite and probably the only good thing to come out of Birmingham, Alabama besides my sweet nephew Wyatt.
This drone video tour of Rupp Arena is neat
Even if it makes me want them to paint those ducts blue even more. Also, the absence of the 2015 banner makes my heart hurt a little. No matter how many points Jamal Murray scores, it’s still gonna take some time for this blogger.
Thoughts out to Lafayette, Louisiana
In case you haven’t heard the tragic news, a gunman opened fire in a movie theater last night in Lafayette, Louisiana, injuring eight and killing two before turning the gun on himself. Is anywhere safe?! Stuff like this makes me hate the world today.
Northern Kentucky, this KSR is for you
Matt and Ryan are at Dickmann’s Sports Bar in Fort Wright this morning for what has traditionally been one of the biggest shows of the summer tour. Northern Kentucky UK fans like to complain that they don’t get a lot of the perks the central Kentuckians do, so this KSR is for you guys. Come on out to enjoy the show and register for tickets from GuyOnTheCornerTickets.com.
Until then, marvel at this picture of the ultimate Louisville fan:
