UK Fan on Mt. Ranier Wants to Hear John Calipari on Kentucky Sports Radio

On top of Mt. Rainier

John Calipari called in to Kentucky Sports Radio this morning to wish Matt a happy birthday, and stuck around for a segment to talk about his new players, who are now all on campus and enrolled as UK students. It’s the first time he’s really been able to talk about the freshmen since signing day, so our ears were definitely perked. Here are a few highlights:

— Cal said he’s looking forward to “getting the taste out of our mouths” from last season, and that this squad has “talent, great size, athleticism,” and can shoot better than the 2010 team.

— Also, Cal may be the only person in the world to say that “Hey Soul Sister” is a better song than “Into the Mystic.”

— How about the Harrison Twins? Cal said that Andrew is “really good,” with a “great feel for the game and skill set.” As for both twins, he said that he sat down with them and their parents to form a “great plan for how we’re attacking their personal growth to get them to that next step, that next level of what they can be. If they’re the best version of themselves, it’s scary. They’ve got great size, skills, and should be great defenders.”

— That’s great, but he saved the best quotes for Julius Randle, who he called an “alpha beast.” How good is Julius Randle? “Scary. Really scary.” Cal compared Randle to Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in how he takes practices to the next level and has that killer instinct:

“There are guys that have a deer-in-the-headlights look, and there are others that squint their eyes like ‘I’m gonna rip your throat out.’ He’s one of them.”

Yeah…the season can start right now, please.

Check out Cal’s full segment, which comes near the end of hour two. It’ll be the best thing you do today.

I hope we get to the ncaa tournament this year. Top programs do not lose in the first round of the NIT.

    Jimbo,

Are you a top program if you lose in the NIT after the first round? Louisville has been there and lost twice since Pitino took over.

Jimbo doesn’t know anything about top programs. Hell, his coach Ricky P thinks creating a dynasty in college basketball is making it to the finals 3 years in a row (as he said the other day in his speech). No, Rick, making it to the finals 3 years in a row is not a dynasty. You actually need to win the championship multiple times to be a dynasty…and by “multiple times” I mean win more than 3 times in 30 years.

#4. its real easy to see you’re not a Kentucky fan, because every Kentucky fan I know would no way wish for something that is already a done deal. This Kentucky team is not only a great bunch of players, it’s the greatest assembly of talent ever in the history of college basketball. Last year’s team had no bench to speak of a soft PG, and only three 5 star player, and the best of those went out with injury, so don’t act like your concerned and at the same time get your little brother digs in. the projected starting lineup of this team has an average player ranking of 5.2

to go into my last post a little further here goes. this is the Kentucky Wildcats projected starting lineup, and their ranking Andrew Harrison #4. Aaron Harrison #6. dakari Johnson #8 Alex Poythress #7 Julius Randle #2. I misspoke on my last post it is A. 5.4 average there isn’t a team in the country or in history that can boast of a starting line up like this. and our second team could be a top 25 team. BBN RULES.
