Tyrese Maxey caps off ridiculous comeback to tip-off Peach Jam

The Nike EYBL Peach Jam tipped off today, and one of the first games of the event featured matchup of Kentucky commit Tyrese Maxey and UK target Cole Anthony.

Two of the top guards in the nation, and the result was just about as fun and competitive as you’d expect.

Though they didn’t guard each other, Maxey and Anthony traded off baskets throughout the evening, easily the two best players on the floor. Folks on Twitter couldn’t stop raving about either guard, Maxey in particular.

No point totals are available for either yet, but that wasn’t the main storyline of the matchup. We all knew they could score with the best of them.

Maxey’s Houston Hoops team fell behind by as many as 12 points late in the game, and his head coach reportedly waved the white flag and pulled his star player from the game.

After a second on the bench, the future Wildcat hopped back up and put himself back in the game believing he could bring his team back from behind for the victory.

With just 4.2 seconds left, Maxey ripped Anthony and tied the game 63-63 with a layup. And it only got crazier from there.

And another look:

John Calipari and Kenny Payne were in the house to check out the Wildcat commit take on Anthony, another possible future Cat.

TJ interviewed Maxey after the game about the ridiculous comeback, and his comments were pretty amazing.

We’ll have more from Peach Jam tonight and throughout the week.
