Tyler Ulis dazzles in UK’s 74-49 win over Puerto Rico

BusYwEyIUAAXwkK

UK’s first game of the Big Blue Bahamas trip is in the books, and the Cats came away with a 74-49 victory over the Puerto Rico Reserve Team. Aaron Harrison was the leading scorer with 15 points, followed by Karl Towns and Alex Poythress with 10 each.

Although he only had two points, Tyler Ulis was the story of the game for me. At 5’9″, Ulis is tiny, but is one of the most skilled passers in the Calipari era. For a player so short, he has amazing vision, dishing out five assists to two turnovers. As Jay Bilas put it, “A lot of players look, Ulis sees.” That’s deep.

More all afternoon as we come down from the giddiness that is UK basketball in August…

No one looked bad in this game, which is awesome. Some guys made a few mistakes, particularly the freshmen, but being an exhibition game and having some “vets” as our core means those mistakes didn’t feel as significant as previous years.

The effort of Dakari, seeing Lee more, and then seeing some pretty high-caliber play from Ullis and Towns (benefiting from having some “vets” around them) were what stood out most to me. Harrisons, Poythress, and others looked about how I’d hope for the first game.

By the way, someone remind Bilas that sometimes the preseason ranking is pretty far off. Particularly when our star Center Noel blows out his knee right when the team was starting to dig their way out of a hole.

Pitino walked thru the pearly gates and was shown to his 2 bdrm house with a faded UL flag waiving in the yard.
After noticing the streets of gold leading up to the mansion on the hill with the new UK flags waiving, Pitino questions God..”Why does coach Cal get the nice mansion”?
God replies… That’s not Cals house, it’s mine!!

Ok, lemme be more specific. I watched game (at a pub here in Sarasota with no sound), and I know that Willie and Trey didn’t play. What I’m wanting to know is their status. I imagine Willie is still recouping from ankle surgery but what’s up with Trey?
Down here in Gator territory, KSR is the best source of UK info.

They said Willie could play today if they NEEDED him to, but they don’t need him so he won’t. Lyles is still 2 weeks out.

Trey has a minor lower leg injury. Extra precaution with it.

I’m as happy as anyone else about the way we looked but i’ve always wondered why Brian Long and Sam Malone were in Lexington. Always welcomed them and supported them though. Then they’re just excused or not asked to go on this trip? Are they team members or fake team members lol

Does anyone know what Jay Bilas meant when he said,
    “Todd Lanter…a 2 time All-SEC player for UK” ??????
