Tyler Herro and PJ Washington both thought Auburn wanted it more

What went wrong for Kentucky vs. Auburn? A whole, whole lot, but Tyler Herro said that in the second half, the Tigers simply wanted it more.

They just wanted it more down the stretch. They played a little bit harder as far as getting offensive rebounds and stuff like that. They played a great game, credit to them.”

“Auburn just beat us,” PJ Washington agreed. “They played harder than us. I feel like they wanted it more.”

At the press conference, John Calipari said Auburn outplayed the Cats and Bruce Pearl outcoached him.

“Congratulations to Auburn. Did what they had to do to win the game. They played aggressive and tough, they bumped, and it was a grinding kind of game. Two of their guys had 50 points. Think about that. They deserved to win the game. We got outplayed, got outcoached, and still had a chance to win the game. I thought we were going to win the game the whole way until the one or two plays in overtime. Never entered my mind we weren’t going to win the game. Proud of these guys. Proud of my team. We didn’t play particularly well, but give them credit for making us play poorly.”

Kudos to the Tigers. If I can stand to watch the games, I’ll be rooting for them the rest of the way.

I’ll agree with Cal. He got out coached. Wasn’t the first time and won’t be the last

Did you see the end of the Duke game? Izzo called a TO, ran a play that got a fifth year senior a WIDE OPEN look that he hot for the win. They never played stall ball, they ran the offense starting at 25 seconds instead of 15 seconds, and moved the ball inside and out instead of throwing it around the perimeter and hoping. What was hilarious was in their effort to protect Duke, Duke couldn’t get the ball back because they only were CALLED for three fouls even though almost every drive by Zion is an offensive foul. So now we see coach K is also over rated as a coach and under performing with three of the top ten draft picks.

Not a Cal hater. Just not sure he can adjust the plan in a game. He’s not the only one

Thank you Syrin!! That’s a VERY excellent point except you can’t find a Duke fan calling for Ks head. They should have more of a spoiled attitude than we do, yet they don’t. Plus their fans aren’t classless enough to make a painting mocking an injured player like one of our dumb azz ones did.

Look at my comments last night and earlier in the year. Last night I said dUKe will go down to MSU. You can’t win a title being totally dependent on FR. dUKe had 17 turnovers to MSU 6 and Zion and RJ had 12 of them. Young players, young teams will make those mistakes in the pressure situations. dUKe beat them in every other statistic, better shooting %, 11 more rebounds etc but those turnovers are a result of youth and is what caused the loss.

Except Duke wasn’t “totally” dependent on freshmen. Bolden and DeLaurier are solid juniors. Coach K has really done so much for Bolden’s NBA hopes lol

Exactly. If you aren’t playing your hardest in this game, then you should have your scholarship revoked.

Are you serious? Yea, take their scholarships away! The problem is they are One and Done. They are probably checking out of the lodge as we speak. The One and Done is really working well for us. But, as Cal says. It is more important to have top round draft choices than win National Championship.

I was in Lubbock for work several years ago, and played golf at the Texas Tech course with a couple of the assistant basketball coaches (one of them was Stew Robinson, who played at IU for Bobby Knight back in the early 80’s). I have good memories of that place, so I’ll cheer for Texas Tech. But I will also be cheering for Auburn.

And I called it last night and have said all year even dUKe with the 2 best FR ever on one team still won’t win. I have always said no team that relies on FR will win a title. And K is the best coach, not hard to see. He beat our coach by 34 and at least lost to a great team and coach today.

Coach K has more titles in that run with fewer NBA players. I think both coaches are over rated. the difference is the refs and NCAA protect Duke more than any other team in NCAA history.

Top 3 recruits in the country. Top 2 draft picks. Only team close was 2012 Cats, but u know, they won it all. Game has clearly passed Coach K by. He can’t coach. Should be fired. I said earlier it was my last post til football but I couldn’t resist.

    • mashburnfan1
      7:20 pm March 31, 2019 Permalink

We won in 2012 because we had SR Miller, SO Lamb and SO Jones and the great AD. Had dUKe had a few returning guys like that they would have won the title. But when you only rely on FR to win a title it will never happen, not from Fab 5 to now. We should know that better than any fan base. And Coach K beat Cal by 34 this season, with a younger less experienced team, that is all you need to know.

    • StillBP
      7:24 pm March 31, 2019 Permalink

Yeah Mash except saying ‘had Duke had a few returning guys they would have won the title’ is an opinion and not a fact and you repeatedly claim you only state facts. Duke lost, boo hoo. Just because a coach has great players and loses doesn’t mean he can’t coach… Goes for k and Cal.

    • syrin23
      7:34 pm March 31, 2019 Permalink

Putting any stock in that first game is stupid. That game Duke couldn’t miss a shot, and the reality is that this was a bad shooting Duke team. if it wasn’t for Zion’s uncalled offensive fouls they lose many more games this year including to UCF. ACC over rated. Virginia gets to the FF because their guard shoved a player to the ground with two hands in full view of the world, then gets a three with the announcers baffled as to what the refs were watching.

Matt..get a more mature clean site without all these trashy ads or I am having your Davidson degree rescinded.

We need shooters. We also need the slashers and the stretch fours, but we need guys who can actually hit the three. The game has moved to this at all levels. We must make free throws. We should have 3 more titles under Cal and it is a result of these problems. We bullied our way past 3 Division II schools who hit the three like crazy, but once we played a legit team it was over. Tyler played scared and Hagans was overmatched. I think Hagans has not been the same after he realized it was not a done deal he was going straight to the NBA. We need to tweak the culture at UK, so they feel good about returning.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard losing players say the other team wanted it more. I’ve heard the winning team say it – but never the losers.

Tom Izzo is no better coach than K. Pearl is no better coach than Cal. But they are all very very good. Today Izzo and Pearl got the best of them but u know what? Duke lost at the FT line too and Coach K can’t shoot for them any more than Cal can. It happens. Sucks for us, they all had bad nights the same night, we needed one more guy who was hitting or PJ needed to better from the line and he could drag us across anyway. Sucks but it’s over and it’s not the coach and they’re not all terrible they just played like crap today. Couple guys prolly really should move on to the NBA and it wouldn’t hurt to hv a transfer or two and we reload w some returning talent and new guys. Let’s get Matthew Hurt.

  21. I ain’t gonna lie. That headline pissed me off. How can you not want it as badly as anyone else? If someone else is just bigger, stronger, faster, better, their coach is better (and I think Pearl was today), I get it. But they wanted it more? Scottie beam me up!!!

Not sure if this make sense or not because I don’t claim to be an expert but if you try to use that first game as any sort of measurement…. looks like duke got worse and uk got better. It is what it is. As long as we have so many one and done freshmen playing against seniors they will never want it more and will end up like they have this year. It is about lack of experience.
