We knew this college basketball season would be a mess due to COVID-19, but this morning, we’re getting a real taste of just how confusing and chaotic it may be.
Yesterday, No. 1 Gonzaga beat No. 6 Kansas 102-90 in the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off, looking every bit like the best team in the country. This morning, news broke that two Gonzaga players were quarantining in their hotel rooms, but today’s game vs. Auburn — which JUST tipped off — would still be played. Huh?! Gonzaga issued a statement saying that the two players are out today “per tournament guidelines and COVID-19 protocols,” meaning they didn’t necessarily test positive and could have just been in close contact with someone who did.
College basketball writers on Twitter are on the case, singling out freshmen Dominick Harris and Julian Strawther.
Here’s the deal with the 2 Gonzaga players. Freshman Dominick Harris’ father tweeted his son is quarantining due to being in close proximity with a player who tested positive. Source said it’s another frosh, and NOT Jalen Suggs. Source said Julian Strawther will not play today.

I don’t know how long the tweet will be up, but this is the father of Gonzaga’s Dominick Harris saying that a player tested positive. pic.twitter.com/qVCLtNcn5N

Meanwhile, this video of Gonzaga celebrating Mark Few’s 600th win in the locker room is making the rounds even though it was deleted from the Bulldogs’ official Twitter account. The group includes Strawther (No. 0):
After Mark Few’s 600th win on Thursday, the team huddled around him and threw ice on him. Some time before 8:45 PM last night the tweet and the corresponding video were deleted off of Gonzaga’s twitter account. pic.twitter.com/rFRwBZpNp3
