Today on KSR: Quade’s Back

Fans were on pins and needles until Quade Green’s mother told the Herald-Leader last night the freshman point guard from Philly will return to Kentucky for his sophomore season. Quade’s decision to return has quelled concerns by fans and gives Kentucky’s backcourt some experienced depth in 2019.

John Calipari is bringing in three, maybe four new guards next season — Immanuel Quickley, Tyler Herro, and/or Ashton Hagans and Tyrese Maxey.  They have all the rankings and accolades, but it’s a whole new ballgame once they arrive in Lexington.  Green’s experience should help them mature faster, while easing them into action.

From the outside, the fans were losing patience.  A culture of failure appeared to consume Kentucky basketball’s upperclassmen, a stigma fans will refuse to embrace.  Luckily, Green’s return allows fans to exhale…for now.

P.J. Washington, Jarred Vanderbilt and Wenyen Gabriel are the final three Wildcats who still have time to decide.  NBA workouts begin this week, the combine is May 16-20 and the deadline to withdrawal from the draft is June 11 at 5:00 p.m.

Thanks, Jonny

Green’s return was unofficially confirmed at the Catspy’s during a self-aware spoof with Jonny David.

Benny Snell and the Kentucky offensive line were big winners last night.  Stephen Johnson won the Heart of the Wildcat, Sydney McLaughlin was Female Rookie of the Year and my good friend Jeff Poole became the first football manager to ever win the Keightley Assist Award.  Congrats to all the winners (you can find them all here).

Wolves, Thunder are Finished

Karl Towns, Patrick Patterson and Dakari Johnson are about to have a lot of free time on their hands.  The Thunder and the Timberwolves were taken to the woodshed, losing game fours by a combined 36 points to fall to a 3-1 series deficit.  Tonight’s games should be a little closer:

  • 7:00 — Bucks at Boston on NBATV (Tied 2-2)
  • 8:00 — Heat at Sixers on TNT (PHI leads 3-1)
  • 10:30 — Spurs at Warriors on TNT (GS leads 3-1)

Can KSR please stop mentioning Maxey like he’s a UK commit. He’s not. And the assumption is he’ll reclassify too. Those are 2 big assumptions that need to quit getting used over and over like they’re certainty.

Quade being back is just massive. A guy that can right the ship when stuff is not going well, along with just beast out.
