Today on KSR, presented by CSL Plasma

A message from our sponsor:

KSR Plasma Donation Day is coming! During these unprecedented times, the need for plasma donations is even more important. Our friends at CSL Plasma know the power of KSR fans and are asking you to spread the word. Join Matt, Ryan, and the gang at CSL Plasma on August 27th for KSR Plasma Donation Day!

The event will be at their Lexington Versailles Road location: 1840 Oxford Circle. The team at CSL Plasma will have food in the parking lot and will be handing out swag and info about donating plasma! But only a limited number of donors will be allowed inside the building that day so make sure you head to to find a location near you. For the next month, let’s show CSL Plasma the power of KSR and fill their locations with donors.

Good morning, all. With the business out of the way, here’s what you can look forward to today in the world of UK sports.

We’ll hear from Bruiser Flint and John Calipari

On Monday, the addition of Bruiser Flint to Kentucky Basketball’s coaching staff became official. Today, Bruiser will speak to the media for the first time on Zoom, and afterward, we’ll hear from John Calipari himself. Check the site around lunch for updates, including the latest on Olivier Sarr (if there’s anything to share).

Confidence is high at fall camp

The Kentucky Football team is five practices in to fall camp, and last night, we heard from UK’s offense, specifically Eddie Gran, Josh Ali, Darian Kinnard, and Justin Rigg. Nick Roush has a full recap of their comments here, but here are a few quick-hitters to get the football juices rolling this morning:

— This quote from Eddie Gran is exciting:

“Since I’ve been here this is the fastest we’ve installed (the offensive playbook). We’ve just finished five practices and we didn’t slow down. We went through all five installs. That’s never happened here. They have been unbelievable. They picked it up. It’s not perfect but I sure do like where they’re going.”

— So is this one from Josh Ali on the secondary:

“I feel like out of all four years, this is the best (defensive back) group that I’ve had competition with. Brandin Echols, Fats — I don’t know his real name, we just call him Fats — Kelvin Joseph from LSU. He’s doing really great, he’s really physical. Vito (Tisdale) is doing really good right now, he’s really physical. Even the front four is crazy. Sometimes we don’t get off pace because of those guys. I feel like the defense all around is doing a great job.”

Please just give us football, 2020. Here are all of Gran’s comments from last night, along with some beautiful B-Roll.

Need more? A new episode of 11 Personnel is coming your way shortly.

Jamal Murray is not human

Thanks to 42 points from Jamal Murray, the Denver Nuggets avoided elimination last night with a 117-107 win over the Utah Jazz. Thirty-three of Murray’s points came in the second half, including this 360-degree layup.

Over the last two games, Murray has posted 92 points, 19 rebounds, 15 assists, and zero turnovers. Ridiculous.

Today, the Milwaukee Bucks (Eric Bledsoe) and the Los Angeles Lakers (Anthony Davis, Rajon Rondo) have opportunities to advance to the next round, while the OKC Thunder (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nerlens Noel, and Hamidou Diallo) take on Houston Rockets.

  • 4:00 PM (NBATV): Orlando vs. Milwaukee
    • Milwaukee leads series 3-1
  • 6:30 PM (TNT): Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Houston
    • Series tied 2-2
  • 9:00 PM (TNT): Portland vs. LA Lakers
    • Lakers lead series 3-1

KSR’s Derby Countdown begins

Believe it or not, the Kentucky Derby is only ten days away. Our resident Derby expert Nick Roush is going to count it down for us in the most ridiculous manner possible with a daily post about everything from the horses to the house parties (of ten people or less). Look for the first installment later today.

KSBar is back open, come have some wings

Yesterday we had to close KSBar for our end-of-summer deep clean. Today, we’re back open and ready to serve you. May I suggest 25 wings for $20? The Reds play the Brewers tonight, so you can also enjoy our Reds game day specials AND play live socially-distanced trivia at the same time. Or, you can just get today’s carryout special: two steak sandwiches, house cut chips, and two drinks. Call ahead (859-554-6081) to place an order or reserve a table.

New episode of “Love Lines With Lemond”

How are things in the Lemond household this week? Check KSR or the KSR Facebook page at 9 p.m. to find out on the latest episode of “Love Lines With Lemond.” Hopefully they can see the Facebook comments.

The OTT crew is making progress on our “Friday Night Lights” rewatch

Pickings are slim on Netflix these days, so if you’re looking for a quality show to watch — or rewatch — may I suggest “Friday Night Lights”? Fake Barney and I are recapping the entire series, which streams for free on Peacock. So far, we’ve tackled Season 1, and on Friday, we’ll drop our takes on the controversial Season 2.

That CSL Plasma ad reminded me that it’s time to donate blood again. Kind of a big deal right now, for anyone who is eligible to do so. I just made my appointment for later this week.
