TJ Ford likes Tyler Ulis a lot

Retired NBA point guard TJ Ford knows all about being undersized and outmatched on the basketball court. The one-time Texas Longhorn was listed at six-feet tall during his eight-year NBA career, a career that could’ve gone longer if not for frequent injuries. Upon retirement in 2012, Ford said, “I think I succeeded at beating the odds, of being the little guy, making it to the NBA and lasting as long as I did. I think I achieved a lot.”

Today, Kentucky point guard Tyler Ulis is drawing comparisons to TJ Ford, although Ulis is listed three inches shorter. And this afternoon, Ford tweeted his support for the UK freshman:

Ford’s footsteps would be a nice set for Ulis to follow. Being the short guy doesn’t necessarily rule out a lengthy and successful career.

Isaiah Thomas is making it work now. If Ulis can put on about 20-30 pounds he has a shot.

Ulis, work on your free throws! 1 – 6 during the Bahamas tournament will NOT cut it.

Neither will choking on a one and one inside the last minute of a close game against the Dom Rep Nat Team and costing your Team the win…

PS: Take WCS, D. Johnson, AlPo, and M. Lee with you…

That ridiculous lane violation may have been a distraction there. I think he was a good free throw shooter in high school, and based on his touch from 3, I have a strange feeling he’ll be fine from the line.

Kinda like Evan Turner broke his back while in college. Basically a cautionary tale for 6’7″ guys in DIV I college.

Can we start enjoying having a kid on our team for awhile before we start debating what kind of pro career he could have, and whether or not he will be a disappointment if he doesn’t leave after one year?
