More than Five Rebounds from Skal
I don’t expect Skal to turn things around immediately. It takes time adjusting to the physicality in the post and I’m willing to give him until mid-January to hit his stride, but he has to start giving us a little more. Arizona State can stay in the game if they scrap for offensive rebounds. I care less about how many points Skal is putting up than how many defensive rebounds he can haul in.
No Foul Trouble for Alex Poythress
A lot of things went wrong in the post against UCLA, but Alex Poythress’ absence was probably the most noticeable. When Alex is at his best, this team goes from good to great. A guy that has to play with a high motor, it can be tough to balance his physicality with the way the refs are calling the game. Alex only had two double-doubles entering the season. He has three so far this year. I want to see that version of Alex.
Tyler Ulis Needs to Find His Shot
Tyler’s shooting woes are understandable coming off his elbow injury, but his short skid can’t turn into a slump. Since his return, he’s made only 5 of 22 shots (22.7%), and 3 of 11 from 3-point land (27.2%). He’s still creating plenty of offense, dishing out 17 assists, but it’ll be nice to see his smooth stroke return to proficient form.
