Three Kentucky players earned double-doubles for the first time since 2010

Against Kansas, three Wildcats earned double-doubles. And although there have been dozens of double-double performances throughout the John Calipari era, there’s only been one other night where three different players each accomplished the feat.

John Wall, Demarcus Cousins and Patrick Patterson.

PJ Washington, Reid Travis and Keldon Johnson.

Pretty good company, right?

Wall, Cousins and Patterson found their groove on February 16, 2010 against Mississippi State in a game that went to overtime. Wall finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds; Cousins had 19 points and 14 rebounds; Patterson had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Both Wall and Patterson got their tenth board in overtime and, if you’ll remember, the Cats came home with a 81-75 victory over the Bulldogs.

Even without the extra five minutes, the 2018-19 Cats were able to get three players on the double-double list. Keldon Johnson’s tenth board came just in time – he pulled in his last defensive rebound with just three seconds remaining in the game. Johnson says he didn’t know how close he was to earning that coveted double-double, but you can be the judge of that.

“I actually wasn’t really paying attention to that and then they told me, so that’s cool,” Johnson said after the game. “I was just trying to clean out the boards. They said they wanted us to keep rebounding, so I was just focused on grabbing the rebound.”

And how does he feel about being included in something that hasn’t happened at Kentucky since 2010?

“That’s pretty cool,” Johnson said with a smile. “That is pretty cool.”
