Three Arkansas players arrested for buying tobacco products with counterfeit money

Today in “smheadlines”: Arkansas basketball players Anton Beard, Jacorey Williams and Dustin Thomas are suspended indefinitely after being arrested for first-degree forgery. What kind of forgery? They bought tobacco products and other items with counterfeit money:

According to a police report, all three players were identified on surveillance cameras using fake money. Beard and Thomas allegedly bought tobacco products with counterfeit $20 bills while Williams bought other items. Beard also requested that a clerk change fake $50 bills into $100 bills, according to the police report.

Last season, Beard averaged 5.7 points per game while Williams averaged 4.8 points per game. Thomas is a transfer from Colorado, and will sit out this season.

Dumb, dumb, dumb.

So three guys in Arkansas are passing counterfeit money and they all happen to play for the state university. Wonder if there is a connection? Would it be an NCAA violation if a booster gave them fake money?

Now these Three Stooges get to find out the OTHER function of the United States Secret Service!

And yes SteveM, regardless of whether the money is real or not, it is still a violation if an NCAA Booster gave them that money.

But I doubt that a “Friend of the Program” would be THAT stupid, probably more than likely these three were having a little fun with the dual-sided color photocopier at Kinkos and didn’t realize the full extent of what they were doing.

Gotta hand it to Cal – for the most part, his recruits have been relatively high character guys…

Basketball players using tobacco products…won’t that stunt their growth? Appears that one does not need to be highly intelligent to play basketball at the University of Arkansas.
