This is heartbreaking

@MattNorlander

As you might expect, the crowd outside the UK locker room was huge, and Drew and I were right next to the golf carts when the Harrisons, Willie, Karl and Coach Cal left for the press conference. Karl had his arm around Willie and Aaron had a towel draped over his face. I couldn’t bring myself to take any pictures, but practically everyone else did, including Matt Norlander, who snapped that unforgettable one of Aaron up there. I had planned on going into the locker room as some sadistic form of closure, but as the media horde swarmed in, I got halfway in and turned around. I’m not made for that.

Once back at the press conference, the players were noticeably upset, heads in hands and shiny-eyed. They clearly wanted to be anywhere but here, but if you take anything away from tonight, take this picture:

So LOVE this team and think these players were very special. I hate to lose them!

Cal had this team snatch defeat from the jaws of victory tonight with that stall ball when up 4. Worst coaching move I ever seen. Why someone tell me why he did that.

I don’t mean to take any credit away from him, but 1 title in 4 final fours is really disappointing.

Towns is the only player good enough to go to the NBA at this point. Willie just disappears in the big games and he has no offensive game whatsoever.

QUIT! If it wasn’t for WCS this team probably wouldn’t have made it this far.

Banjo that doesn’t in any way mean WCS is ready for the NBA. He either can’t or isn’t willing hard enough to rebound. That is far more important in the NBA than his ability to go guard a smaller man. The NBA doesn’t care about that. They do expect even an offensively weak player to be able to get some put backs, get some extra offensive chances from rebounds and Willie just hasn’t been doing that for a lot of games now. When you aren’t featured on the offense there really isn’t any good reason an athletic 7 footer can’t get some offensive rebounds.

Why don’t you go several feet under ground. Quit trying to start something. We had 38 wins and beat your sorry team on your court. We were playing in April and have great young men representing us.

Yet you don’t mention the Wisconsin players classily taunting Willie.

Thanks for a great season full of a lifetime of memories.
Doublechin you need to change that name to Spark’s asshole because that’s what you seem to be. Find another team to bash and leave this one alone if you are that unhappy.

Hopefully, Cal can get 9 pros next year. Eight just wasn’t enough.

I hate to say it but this team choked big time…no titles-i don’t care about the regular season. They shriveled up when it really mattered, as did Cal again.

Yeah, Cal’s one title in 6 years and 4 final 4s is terrible. I miss Gillespie. At least he tried to coach our boys up instead of just rolling the ball out to a group of 9 McDonald’s all-Americans.

How can anybody bash this team??? 38 times they answered the bell. In the highest stakes. They feel a little short to a terrific team!

Are there things that could be done differently? Hell yes. I would love to see Cal keep a junk zone in his back pocket when teams destroy the man to man personally.

But my God we are spoiled Final Fours for the last four tournaments they were in! Appreciate it! Eventually we will wish for the days that we could cry about losses in the final four.

The media should not be allowed in the locker rooms of any teams period. Let’s teams rejoice or mourn in private. Media should only be allowed to ask questions while the players are at the podium. And while we’re at it, the media should have to buy tickets to the games are pay for their own meals.
