Third place in the SEC could get really crowded tonight

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports
If Auburn and Tennessee defend their home floors tonight, there will be a six-way tie for third place in the Southeastern Conference. SIX!
Alabama and Florida are currently alone in a tie for third, but if both teams were to lose tonight on the road against the league’s first and second place teams, they’ll each fall into a group of six teams with an 8-7 record.

Alabama is up first in the 7 pm game as a heavy underdog at Auburn. Then second-place Tennessee hosts Florida as a five-point favorite in the 9 pm game.
If both teams lose, they will enter into a tie with Kentucky, Mississippi State, Arkansas and Missouri for third.
And that would mean the SEC seeding race is wide open with three games to play.

That last game against FL will be MASSIVE
I know we boiled the last eight years, but it’s pathetic that third place in the SEC is a headline
Except that it’s awesome to see the SEC improve in basketball.
And what did we boil anyway?
SO great to see this league as competitive and difficult as it is now (and looks to be for the foreseeable future)
Stfu Truman. Just stfu and go away!!!
We hold the tiebreakers vs MissSt, Bama, and Arkansas with games left vs Mizzou and Fla. A lot is still in our hands.
We do head to head but if there are multiple teams it’s their record amongst themselves then their record against the 1 seed (Auburn) then if tied, record against the 2 seed (UT). Let’s hope we don’t need the last 2!
Right now Florida holds the tie breaker 4-1, we’re at 3-2, MSU will finish 3-3 bc they have no games against the others, Alabama is 2-3 w games against Missouri and Arkansas, who is 1-3 and has games against Alabama and Missouri, who’s 3-3 but has games against Arkansas and us. Those games will change those records of course but winning the next two home games is critical. If we do, depending on how those other games shake out, odd are we should at least own the 4th seed.
Truth is MSU may have the easiest path to 11-7 bc they get UT as their toughest at home and one road game at LSU. May need a little help from the Vols to keep them in a tie w us bc they help our record. Hate having to pull for the Vols, it’s unnatural. Florida has a tough run w/ Auburn and us at home and Alabama on the road. They may end the season needing to beat us at home on senior day…
