There were a lot of characters on the Puerto Rico Reserve Team (looking at you #14 with the headband), but Manuel Narvaez may be most memorable. Narvaez is Puerto Rico’s 6’10” 260 lbs. center, and at age 32, had his hand full with UK’s never ending rotation of young players. Narvaez was a popular topic on the live blog, drawing the following comparisons:
Shawn: Narvaez looks like my local tv repair man.
Josh in Oklahoma: Navarez is 54 years old
Shawn: Narvaez reminds me of the Serbian guy off of Barber Shop.
Sec 122: PR #15 drinks rum and smokes Cuban cigars during the breaks
CarruthEntourage: Narvez looks like a WWF jobber from the early 90’s
PaducahPatty: Narvez is going to need a nap soon or some tapioca
Narvaez was drafted by the National Superior Basketball League of Puerto Rico (BSN) in 2000, and played a few years in the NBA D-League for the Albuquerque Thunderbirds and the Colorado 14ers. He even wrote a motivational book called “El Sentido del Baloncesto en la Vida,” which translates to the “Basketball Sense of Life.” Personally, I can’t wait to see him when the Cats play Puerto Rico again on Tuesday.
