The Trash-Talking Arkansas Assistant Coach is Messing with the Wrong Guy

Malik Monk’s matchup with his home state school in the SEC Championship is already off to a fiery start.  During warmups, Arkansas director of basketball operations Matt Zimmerman exchanged a few words with the shooting guard his program once coveted.

“We’re in the same place as him, and he had to go to Kentucky to get here!” Kyle Tucker heard Zimmerman shout to his team.   The indirect smack talk is one my favorite tactics, but it did not last long.  Monk missed one of his shots shortly after, leading Zimmerman to holler at Monk: “Off to the left today!”

Monk’s retort: “I got something for you.”

Monk is not the kind of guy you want to anger.  When he gets mad, he gets buckets.  There was already plenty at stake in today’s game, and Zimmerman just upped the ante.

Wait… ARE they in the same place as him? Are they a 2 seed in the NCAA tournament? Are they 16-2 in the conference?

He’s just messing with Monk. Doubt Malik thinks it’s a problem…

Monk didn’t come here to play in the SEC tournament championship. He came here to get a Championship that matters and get to the next level. Just ask Malik Newman if he would like a redo.

In what universe can you compare Arkansas’s basketball program to UK’s???

It never ceases to amaze me how much the Arkansas coaches act more like elementary school kids than professional coaches. Do they even know what professionalism means? Man up wussies.

The early 90s when we were being punished for Sutton’s misdeeds?

Sorry but you still cannot at any point in these two schools compare their complete bodies of work unless you’re a moron.

With the way Arkansas needed the game with two flagrant fouls and especially on fox I hope these ass munched get crushed in the first round of the Big Dance. Total duck move by Kingsley

Players tend to take on the identity of their coach. Judging by the way Arkansas’ coaches carry themselves, the punk a** moves by Kingsley, Hannahs, and dude with the gray spot in the front of his fro are just a reflection of their coaching staff. Classless and thuggish.

I find it difficult to use the words class, and Arkansas in the same sentence. Can someone cue up Bobby Petrino in a neck brace again?

Just add the phrase “or lack there of” after the word class in a sentence in Arkansas and you’ll have it (joke). And yes the Bobby Petrino neck brace photo is always appropriate so I agree with you wholeheartedly here.

No class. If Zimmerman had any questions why Monk went to UK, the classless coach just answered them.

I’m so tired of hearing Arkansas fans complain about Monk’s decision to come to a real basketball program. I’ve never seen a fan base get so bent out of shape over a high school player going out of state to play ball. How is that a hard decision to make?? Literally makes the difference in millions of dollars whether he goes to UK or Arkansas. NONE of the people criticizing him would have done any differently. But they act like this 18 year old kid is indebted to the entire state for some reason.
Also, Ark’s coaching staff has about as much class as their players. I can think of maybe 1 or 2 players in the Calipari era (or honestly in the entire history of Kentucky basketball) who have ever shown a lack of class like we saw today from Arkansas. Probably because we don’t recruit thugs.
