The top 5 former Cats in the Association haven’t changed from last week but there has been a shuffle in their order. A Christmas week of games had some former Cats playing on national TV for one of the few times all season. How did they do in the spotlight? Let’s take a look:
5. Rajon Rondo
Rondo continues to gel with his new team and helped lead the Mavs to a 2-1 record since last Tuesday. Rondo flirted with a triple double in all three games while posting an average of 16 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds. Dallas will host John Wall and the Wizards tonight in a match-up of two of the best point guards in the league. Not to mention two teams with championship dreams.
4. DeMarcus Cousins
Four of the five Cats drafted in 2010 continue to get it done on their teams and it’s astounding to look back and see the talent that was assembled in Lexington. Chief among them is Boogie who exploded in two games this week for 39 and 24 points respectively and looked Shaq-esque in the dunk above. Unfortunately the Kings are pretty awful as they have a record of 2-9 when Big Cuz isn’t in the lineup and an owner who wants to play a 4 v 5 defensive scheme. Our only hope to see Cuz on national TV is to vote him into the all-star game. Do your civic duty!
3. John Wall
John Wall is good y’all. On Christmas day he completely dominated the hapless Knicks in MSG with 24, 11 assists, and 6 rebounds. He then followed that up with solid performances in wins over Boston and Houston. The Wizards are right in the thick of the race for the top seed in the East and the great Wall looks destined for a second straight all-star appearance.
2. Anthony Davis
Davis continues leading the league with a player efficiency rating of 32.56 which still edges out Wilt Chamberlin’s record of 31.82. Ant is a one man show in New Orleans and could have the Pelicans playoff bound much earlier than anybody expected. An early indicator of Davis getting his team into the top 8 could be if they are able to win tonight as they host Eric Bledsoe and the Suns. It’s still too early to be thinking about ways to find some help for the Big Man in the Big Easy.
1. Eric Bledsoe
Pardon the pun but Bledsoe and the Suns are red hot. After the dropping 6 in a row to begin December, Phoenix has won 6 straight with Bledsoe averaging 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists over that span. Against Rondo and the Mavs he posted his second triple double of the season which is second in the NBA behind Rondo’s 3. Bledsoe is certainly earning that big contract from this past summer. The Suns are just one game behind San Antonio for 7th in the West and could move up the standings by keeping the streak going against AD and the Pelicans.
Vote for all these Cats and more to the NBA All-Star game.
