The Top 10 Games To Come In 2014, Ranked

Wrap your head around the fact today is June 21st and we are almost in the month of July. The year 2014 is nearly over but before we can tell the year good bye we’ve got a whole lot of sports to watch. 2013 has been an awesome year for Kentucky where we battled to the national title game and signed a top recruiting class in football. Now, we get to see some of that pay off in these 2014 games. Here are my picks for the biggest games to come in 2014:

10. Bahamas Tour, August 10-17th

The Bahamas tour is going to be awesome. We get to see this team that is absolutely loaded with talent almost 3 months before we normally would and they will take on teams with NBA talent. Since it’s only an exhibition the game is low on the list but it’s still going to be an epic showcase of this team and we will all get to see what the new guys are bringing to the table.

9. Kentucky @ Florida, September 13th

Image Via Sportsrantzone

Why does Kentucky at Florida matter this year more than others? Well, it could be our best chance to win a game in the Swamp in 30 years. The Gators currently hold the longest active win streak in the NCAA with 27 straight but they have never been more vulnerable than they are now. The offensive staff is in turmoil after firing Brent Pease and the resignation of Joker. They went 4-8 last season with losses to Vanderbilt and Georgia Southern at home. Kentucky may not have the pieces ready this season to go down there and win but a 3-0 start to the season would be a major achievement for Coach Stoops.

8. Kentucky Vs UT-Martin, August 30th

But you can’t get to 3-0 if you don’t take care of business during the first football game of the year against UT-Martin. The freshman and sophomores should get plenty of playing time in this game and we will finally see what the offense will look like with a capable QB under center. Will it be Patty Towles or Drew Barker is the biggest question facing this game. All signs are pointing towards the redshirt sophomore being named the week 1 starter.

7. Kentucky Vs Texas, December 5th

Rick Barnes would like to remove himself from consideration as coach of this game. Texas will bring a tough team into Lexington which returns all five starters from last season. Unfortunately Kentucky will bring back 3 starters from the national runner-up, a loaded bench, and a stellar class. Myles Turner will be one of the best players to come into Rupp this season but in the long run of the season this game won’t mean too much.

6. Kentucky Vs. Mississippi State, October 25th

If Kentucky is going to get to a bowl game in year 2 under Stoops then they must win at least two SEC games. Mississippi State is one of the games they can get without having to steal one from one of the big boys like LSU, South Carolina, or Georgia.

5. Kentucky Vs. UNC, TBD

UNC hasn’t been to Rupp in two seasons now but the last time they came to town was an all time great. Davis sealed the game with a block as the two best teams in the country met in mid-December. Since 2012 UNC has been a bit down as they have been plagued by injury and players turning pro. This year may be the year that ol’ Roy gets things back on track.

4. Kentucky Vs. Vanderbilt, September 27th

The last time Vandy came to Lexington for football the result was downright embarrassing. The stands were empty as the ‘Dores drummed the Cats by about 1000-0. Now, Vandy is in a new era. No James Franklin. No Jordan Matthews. No Aaron Rodger’s little brother. It’ll be a different trip this year when they come to Lexington and Kentucky will leave the stadium on top. #Section206 is going to be celebrating.

3. Kentucky Vs. Kansas, Champions Classic, November 18th

A potential preview of the 2015 National Championship game? The last time these two teams met in the champions classic it was. Kansas adds Kelly Oubre and Cliff Alexander to a roster that should be preseason top 5. The Jayhawks will give the Cats a challenge at the site of the 2015 final four but UK should come out on top as the more experience team.

2. Kentucky @ Louisville, November 29th

The Cats travel to Papa Johns for the last game of the season and both teams could be looking for a victory to be bowl eligible. Bobby P is back to his old ways by taking every outcast from schools all over the nation. Win at all costs: The Louisville Way. With the game so far out it’s hard to say what each team will be looking like heading into this game but there is no better way than to close out the season with a rivalry game.

1. Kentucky @ Louisville, Dec 27th

The last time we saw the Louisville Cardinals they were being sent packing by our beloved Wildcats in the Sweet 16. The Cards lost two of their best in Luke Hancock and Russ Smith but with Montrezl and Chris Jones back they should still be formidable. Not enough to take down the Cats, even at home, but the game should still be a good one. Cal is 6 – 1 during his five year tenure at Kentucky so this is becoming less of a rivalry with each passing year plus the Cards will have their eyes on ACC competition looming in late December to provide an easy W for UK.  A 2-1 record in the chicken bucket is coming for Kentucky.

What are your picks for the biggest games this season?

Think Rick Barnes would like to “remove his name from consideration”…not Mack Brown. Mack Brown needs a job, maybe he could switch from football to basketball.

Well, it looks like UL is UK’s “Super bowl” in basketball and football. Louisville fans will say that their biggest games of the year are UNC and Duke in basketball and Florida State or Clemson in football. Louisville has come a long way from “Little Brother” to UK’s “Superbowl” opponent.

yeah, this list seems contradictory to the “UL means nothing to me” mantra of this fan base

You could definitely make a case for UK being the biggest game of the year for UofL bball cause it might be the #1 team in the country coming into Yum! And adding the revenge factor from last year. But I do see the appeal of Duke/UNC type games because it’s different and sexy and will be weird playing blue bloods like that in conference.

Louisville fans will only say that Duke and UNC are their biggest games bc they try to act like they don’t care. But when the Cats come into Yum and spank them around, you guys will be crying about foul calls and then claiming to not care since its a regular season game. But in reality we know that UK is your biggest bball game of the year.

After all the buildup and the way the seasons started last year don’t you think this is a bit premature?

Premature? Here when international soccer seems to be the hottest sports news on the internet, nothing could be premature while we wait for some college football and basketball.

Having 5 National Titles less than UK still counts as little brother in my book. Although younger red-headed step child may be more fitting…

They will always be the red headed step child. The biggest games in basketball this year will be Kansas, UNC, Texas, UCLA and the two against Florida. Beating LOSERVILLE is just another notch in the belt anymore, it took a championship team that hacked and clawed until the NCAA force the officials to enforce the rules to beat our worst team under Cal by 3 in the chicken bucket. I heard they hung a new banner in the bucket this year, they beat UCONN.

    • scorpiocard

Well beating UConn is more than the cayuts could do.

    • bigbluetruth
      8:31 am June 23, 2014 Permalink

Since UK beat the TARDS twice and sent you home in the Sweet 16 I guess you gotta hang your greasy ass hat on something. If you had read other chat boards of teams across the country you would’ve seen many fans talking about the screwing the Shockers received.

    • scorpiocard
      8:37 am June 23, 2014 Permalink

What? Shocker fans? I’m sure they said the same thing when the cayuts beat them. Only difference is the cayuts could not close the deal and bring home the trophy. Maybe cal should watch some uk game tape on how to beat UConn. The CARDS did it 3 times last season by double digits. Did it by over 30 at The Yum.

      “couldda been a contender”???

Last time I checked the last team in this state to actually bring home the national championship trophy was U of L. Short memory?

    • bigbluetruth
      8:15 am June 23, 2014 Permalink

That title is the most tainted since the Duke title with players that shouldn’t have been on the court. The NCAA was forced to make officials enforce the rules after WSU got screwed in final 4 against LOSERVILLE. One foul in last 8:43 against the TARDS was a joke and every college basketball fan outside GHETTOVILLE knows it.

We have another quarterback named Reese Phillips. Not sure why he is overlooked. He may be, at this point, the most complete QB we have. Potential is a wonderful thing but it just doesn’t exist until it becomes “actual.”

  9. Louisville sucks
    4:21 pm June 22, 2014 Permalink

In response to #2, it’s adorable watching Louisville fans play down the rivalry because they lose so much. Louisville isn’t UK’s Super Bowl, we play plenty of high powered schools in football and built another great non-conference schedule in basketball including Kansas and UNC. Don’t flatter yourselves card village, just prepare for 7-1 and for Bobby P’s convict squad to take that L to us too. And BTW, our “Super Bowl” is the actual national championship game. Too bad you guys couldn’t make it past the Sweet 16 for the 8th time in 13 years under Rick Pitino

    • scorpiocard

Another grade school drop out who does not understand how to use the “reply” button. Oh the comic irony of you all making fun of U of L fans. Makes for a funny summer.

I sure am going to enjoy watching the most delusional fan base in the nation over the summer talk themselves into the football team is going to go 8-4 or 9-3 and the bball team going 40-0.

      Great theater!

Irony…Louisville fans calling another fan base delusional, and trying to make fun of UK fans while stalking UK boards. That fact that you are here, troll, makes you the laughing stock. After going 1-6 against us and getting bounced twice from the tourney by us, you should just go bury your head in shame.

    • scorpiocard
      11:10 pm June 22, 2014 Permalink

I’m not at all feeling shameful to follow one of the top 7 of so college basketball programs of all time. Okay so you guys are ahead of us at #2 behind UCLA. So be it. The funny thing is you think we do care. If we cared that much we would be uk fans genius. Most all of us are from Kentucky and I even went to uk. Yeah it sucks losing to you all in bball all the time. Cal has Rick’s number for sure, but being the last team in the state to win a title softens the blow. And then there is the fact that unlike most uk or U of L fans, my favorite sport by far is college football. We own you in football (the big boy sport of college athletics) and we always will.

Sorry to bust your delusional bubble, but Steve Kragthorpe is not walking through that door.

For one it’ll be nice to play LOSERVILLE in FB after they’ve played a full season of teams not named Rutgers, Temple or UCONN. Now that Stoops is here and we start owning you in that sport as well you can always become a track fan. The reason LOSERVILLE fans don’t feel shame is it’s bigger than a 4 letter word, it’s above their pay scale.

LMAO at you thinking stoops can beat Bobby! He couldn’t beat him when Bobby faced him with Sunbelt talent. Your delusion is entertaining for sure:)

I actually go to UK, which would be pretty hard to do if I dropped out of grade school lol. I didn’t hit the reply button because this is the first time I’ve commented on here, gotta say it’s pretty hilarious that Card fans visit this website so much. And how do you guys own us in football when we lead the all time series?

I guess UK should play 7-8 high school teams like LOSERVILLE to make our fans feel like we have a great team. What you idiots don’t understand after playing good teams every week you won’t look so good in a bowl games with players injured from playing real teams.

    • scorpiocard

A uk football fan calling US losers. That’s rich! 🙂 You go ahead and comfort yourself in the preseason with that delusional though about injuries. Injuries do play a part in the game, but to think the injuries are gong to skyrocket and suddenly cripple the team shows just how desperate you miserable cayut fans are for some glimmer of hope for your pathetic joke of a football program.

  12. kybigblue

UF was hit hard last year with injuries. It was hard to believe one team could have so many out of their starting lineup. Their backup transferred to get playing time and then their starting QB got hurt and they had no one with experience or much talent to take his place. UF will be a tougher out this year. Last year was the year to beat UF and UK missed out. Fl Has the largest recruiting base east of the Mississippi so don’t expect to see more seasons like last year.

Scorpiocard…. everyone knows this is a basketball state. But since you are a football fan, we own that series too. 14 to 12. So stay off our site and iron the bill of your cap some more while combing your line beard. Louisville wants so hard to be noticed. But rarely are. We own you.
