John Calipari is currently talking to the media about his upcoming Hall of Fame Enshrinement, and although it looks like UK’s having some issues with the live stream, I’m here to pass along updates. Cal says he’s taking his current team to the event, which will take place Friday in Springfield, Massachusetts. He’ll also be joined by former players and friends he’s made throughout his career at UMass, Memphis, and Kentucky. Cal said Terrence Jones has called him five times to get the details.
The normally swaggy Cal admitted he’s nervous for the enshrinement, telling reporters he’s worked more on the speech he’ll give than any speech he’s ever done. “We’ve taken down a few trees,” Cal quipped, noting that he wants to make sure he doesn’t go long. “I don’t want to be that guy.”
This summer, we’ve speculated a lot about how much longer Cal will coach at UK, and this quote supports the camp who thinks he’ll retire here. “The crazy thing is, I’ve got a lot of time to coach yet,” Cal said, adding that his goal is to keep getting his players to the next level. “In the next five, six, seven years, how many guys can we really get in the league?”
I think that deserves a chair spin:
