The team is going to Calipari’s Hall of Fame Enshrinement

Coach Cal HOF

John Calipari is currently talking to the media about his upcoming Hall of Fame Enshrinement, and although it looks like UK’s having some issues with the live stream, I’m here to pass along updates. Cal says he’s taking his current team to the event, which will take place Friday in Springfield, Massachusetts. He’ll also be joined by former players and friends he’s made throughout his career at UMass, Memphis, and Kentucky. Cal said Terrence Jones has called him five times to get the details.

The normally swaggy Cal admitted he’s nervous for the enshrinement, telling reporters he’s worked more on the speech he’ll give than any speech he’s ever done. “We’ve taken down a few trees,” Cal quipped, noting that he wants to make sure he doesn’t go long. “I don’t want to be that guy.”

This summer, we’ve speculated a lot about how much longer Cal will coach at UK, and this quote supports the camp who thinks he’ll retire here. “The crazy thing is, I’ve got a lot of time to coach yet,” Cal said, adding that his goal is to keep getting his players to the next level. “In the next five, six, seven years, how many guys can we really get in the league?”

I think that deserves a chair spin:

I smell a recruiting infraction. Cal’s players should not be allowed to fly or bus or eat on UK’s dollar. The players should do wind sprints to Springfield and eat at McDonald’s along the way to avoid the wrath of my colleagues

Cal looks so healthy. Could not be said when he was having hip trouble. Gonna be a great day for him in so many ways.

I hope the first two of Terrence Jones’ phone calls were to say he was not coming and then calling back to tell Cal he changed his mind.

He will never leave UK. He has said a million times it’s not about him anymore, its about helping families and you dont do that in the NBA. Fans have finally gotten off his back and the school supports anything he wants to do. I cant wait to see how long his career at UK lasts and what the future looks like…starting with #9 this year!! We will be one of the most athletic and best defensive teams in the nation, cant wait!
