The streak lives on

For the third game in a row, UK’s three-point streak was in trouble. The Cats were 0-6 from behind the arc in the first half, and after they went another ten minutes without a trey in the second half, the BBN got restless. The live blog and Twitter were on fire with worried tweets about the 908-game long streak, to the point that the streak even got its own parody account: . Rupp got so worried that fans pleaded “THREE” each time the Cats brought the ball down the court in the last eight minutes. Drew Franklin declared the streak dead with four minutes left.

So, of course it was Aaron Harrison who saved the day. From his spot–THE SPOT–with 2:57 left, Aaron drained a three and the streak lived on. From there, the basket was open, and Karl Towns and Derek Willis added threes of their own.

I think this guy put it best:

Is this streak really important? I guess it’s okay for water cooler talk and blog posts, but all that matters is we got a W. The only reason this might be important is that it is a sign of how anemic our offense is at times. I want to see our 3’s improve, not for the streak, but for the overall picture. As for the streak, meh.

Of course it’s important! We have the 2nd longest streak in the NCAA, which is just more proof that UK dominates all areas of college basketball. If the streak is broken, something historic about our program ceases to be. We just can’t let it happen.

losing the streak is not really indicative of anemic offense. yes, we have gone dry from the three but to still beat a team by 30-something without the 3’s is impressive. we don’t NEED to hit threes to beat teams. just keep taking it inside and pound the glass.

This may be the year the streak ends, just because this team is so dominate. They are so big, they get most of their points in the paint. Plus they dominate teams so much, most games there is no need to even shoot the 3. But, like tonight, Cal may make a concerted effort to keep the streak alive.

totally agree. wife even said, “look, they are setting it up with harrison on the wing to keep it alive” of course it looked like he was double teamed when he jacked up that shot. but hey, it went in and broke the seal lol
