The “most popular” athlete in Kentucky is…Andrew Wiggins?

wiggins-cal

Even though Andrew Wiggins didn’t come to Kentucky, he’s still the “most popular” athlete in Kentucky, according to Andrew Powell-Morse of BestTickets.com. Powell-Morse used Google’s search volume data for the past year to determine which athlete was Googled the most in each state, and Wiggins came out on top in the Bluegrass and in Kansas:

While we wait for the draft decisions, it’s nice to remember that it’s been even crazier than this before. Just thinking about Wigginsanity makes me tired.

H/t Deadspin

A bit misleading…since the survey of google searches is from the past year, this encompasses the spring of 2013 in which fans were constantly searching for news on where he was likely to declare. Lame.

this is completely misleading … I can’t believe they included spring, smh

It’s not misleading because they included spring. It’s misleading because they claim google searches from a given year means he’s the “most popular” athlete in the state. I don’t find it to be a valid measure.

Andrew who? He passed on UK, so I have no use for him. Don’t wish him harm or well.

I am more intrigued by the amount of states googling Lebron.

I said Wiggins would be a bust in college and I think I was right. 10 loss KU team, got beat by Stanford, etc.

Player of the year in big 12, top 5 pick, all American, hardly a bust. Get real.

    -No, I’ll google it.

Vermont loooooves themselves some Tiger Woods though. Maybe it’s a new Ben & Jerry’s flavor.

Thanks KSR for making me the most popular athlete in Kentucky! Without your twice daily updates during my recruitment, I couldn’t have done it.

To be honest, I kept up with him during bball season just to see how much KU fans hated his punk ass!

Called skewed data. Any statistician can use data to get any answer. Just ask the Republicans and Democrats they do it all the time to redistrict.

Sorry but I don’t think Wiggins is “All that” I wasn’t real impressed with him at his stint with Kansas last year. I think he is just a pompous chump that will end up being a little used bench player in the NBA.
