The Loyola Chicago Ramblers are in the Final Four

Loyola-Chicago is dancing into the Final Four.

On a mission from God, the Ramblers did not need Sister Jean’s prayers to get an Elite Eight win.  After winning three games by a combined four points, Loyola stomped Kansas State 78-62 in the South Regional Final.

At least it wasn’t K-State.  Thanks, Sister Jean.

Can we hire their coach? They accomplished what Cal could not with a fraction of their talent.

The 8 million dollar man has 0 final four appearances in the last 3 yrs. 2 of those 3 teams had double digit losses. Porter Moser of Loyola could have better results at half the price from an economic standpoint.

It’s impossible to measure a player’s heart. How it measures against superior talent is difficult to attach a value to. Kentucky needs to re-discover that “heart” it possessed big time not so many years ago. Go Ramblers!!!

And they need to discover a coach who doesn’t suck asss in the tournament.

    How did kstate beat us?

    • maximumscott
      8:56 pm March 24, 2018 Permalink

Officiating dictates game pace. Every 4 minute segment the clock stop 6.5 times bc of fouls. UK couldnt develop a rythym bc of the constant stoppage. KState typically plays at that pace. We couldnt adjust.

    • henderblue

      You’re exactly right.

    • Jiminy Crickets
      9:23 pm March 24, 2018 Permalink

But Loyola Chicago was able to create pace by pushing the ball up the court. Not that we shoulda tried that of course

    • syrin23
      12:02 am March 25, 2018 Permalink

Pushing the ball up the court leads to transition looks if not lay ups, AND leads to more possessions. Shai walked it up so frequently they should test him for Muscular Dystrophy. The line up in the last 4 minutes of the game against UK was the SMALLEST line up we faced all year. A quality coach would have ABUSED that to no end. But we have Cal instead.

GO RAMBLERS!!! You just beat the most overrated, worst team in the tournament. We couldn’t beat them because of missed fee throws. I know Cal says that they don’t have time to practice free throws but after losing 2 national championships & losing to an inferior team like K-State because of missed free throws isn’t it time to do something different?

Loyola would have beat us to, remember they won at UF while we were blown out there. Heck Davidson almost beat us. But this just shows how bad KState is and Cal lost to that team and coach Weber who is awful.

    • maximumscott
      8:58 pm March 24, 2018 Permalink

Hey, you forget to mention KState was 9-22 from 3 and we were 3-12. We also missed 14 FTs. KState played their best and we played very poorly in the form of bad shooting %. Cal will have UK making a big run next year and Kstate wont be talked about nearly at all. Ill take Cal.

I hear you on KSU from 3 but honestly they played like crap too. We just played stagnant offense and unfortunately PJ couldn’t hit his free throws. In actuality both teams played poorly

    • maximumscott
      11:47 pm March 24, 2018 Permalink

KSU actually played better than there average game. Ive watched them a few times and this wasnt a typical performance

    • stitch doctor
      10:05 pm March 24, 2018 Permalink

K-State didn’t have a player that Cal would have recruited. Almost every NCAA tournament, the teams with experience have prevailed. I think it will usually be that way. You can’t coach experience and a “team first” mentality. All American freshmen come from being the “man” backgrounds and when the pressure is on, they revert back to that mind set. Not good.

    • bluetide
      2:01 am March 25, 2018 Permalink

Stitch Doctor tell that to Duke please!!! What are you gonna say if they win this thing? It ain’t gonna be bc of the team building or “senior leadership” in Grayson Allen

    • 4everUKblue
      9:58 am March 25, 2018 Permalink

Stitch you do realize missed free throws cost us the game right? I didn’t see Cal shoot one free throw. And how did KState do against Loyola.? Maximum is right K State played way above their heads, we played poorly and had we hit our free throws we would have won easily.

Did anyone see the blocking call on Kansas State in the last 3 minutes, play that side by side with the Kevin Knox charging call in the last minute and you will see that it was a horrible call!

    • RealCatsFan
      10:14 pm March 24, 2018 Permalink

Yep. That’s why I hate the block/charge call so much. Totally inconsistent. I wish they would just do away with it and make the defender play real defense.

    • maximumscott
      12:05 am March 25, 2018 Permalink

You all are focusing on 1 play. How about the vast difference in tempo bc of the looseness of the whistle?!?!?! With 51 fouls called there is no tempo everything is dictated by the officials. The less whistles you have the more raw the game is and the more it is decided by coaching amd players. Inhate inconsistenty in officiating.

Too bad that Layola is going to get put into the title game by the refs (for ratings and max out profits on press and advertising)and have their dream of winning a National Title ripped away from them by Mark Emmett and the corrupt NCAA by throwing them to be put down by Duke to protect their lucrative,”TAX FREE” investments they have on There Alma Mater Duke is where majority of the NCAA Committee went to school. The rest went to UNC. So they are just going to hand the title to Duke, and that makes me sick. Totally unfair to Layola who have worked there ass’s off to get this opportunity in which more than likely they won’t get again

I do not know why Shai did not push the ball, but him pushing it and getting into the lane would have meant he would not have to spent 30 seconds being pushed, held, grabbed and stiff armed after slowly walking it up. It also means Shai is shooting 20 free throws instead of PJ. This is what I want to hear Cal discuss. The final two possessions do not matter to me as much as this question.

And while the K state lineup got shorter and shorter they were still simply hacking PJ and putting him on the line. I feel bad for PJ. Guys with more experience tend not to miss free throws. We needed Humphries this year.

This happens every year. The matchups and how you play on a given day vs. that one particular team decides the tournament. It is why we do not have 15 championships. It is difficult to pull off, but the painful part is this kind of gift will never be offered again. I do not remember a transition basket on Thursday night.

  23. CKTermy23
    5:36 pm March 25, 2018 Permalink

I know why, Cal got scared of K-State’s ability to steal passes on drives so by going slower(which is K-State’s style) Cal thought he could limit that a bit plus he thought his Freshman could digest it better at a much slower pace. But I agree it shouldn’t have take them long to get accustomed to K-State defensively and should have started to push the ball up the court and that could of gotten us some lobs and fast break opportunities.
