The Champions Classic is lost. Maybe it will move to campus?

The Champions Classic will be played in 2020. It is a matter of where it will be played.

Right now college basketball’s annual ESPN/State Farm doubleheader is looking for a home (or homes) for Duke to play Michigan State and Kentucky to play Kansas. Originally scheduled for a week from tomorrow in Chicago, COVID-19 forced the game out of Chicago and into an Orlando bubble at a later date; however, the Orlando plan got scrapped last week over differences between event planners and the participating schools.

Indianapolis is rumored to be the Champions Classic’s new target city, but playing each game on campus has also emerged as a serious possibility. Matter of fact, Adam Zagoria reports there is a “good chance” Michigan State will travel to Duke, in which case Kentucky and Kansas would also play on the campus of one of the two schools.

Zagoria notes Indianapolis could still be announced as the location for a doubleheader, as soon as tomorrow, his source says, as the situation changes daily.

Point being, the Champions Classic doesn’t know where it is going to be, therefore we’re not going to know UK’s final basketball schedule for a little while longer.

The season begins in 23 days.

Sorry to be that guy, but if it’s on campus it’s not the Champion’s Classic. It’s just a TV double header. Still a great one though, and granted, it’s only for (hopefully) this season.

So, KU has been to our place twice since we’ve been there in 2016? So, looks like we may end up in Lawrence…Ugh. Come on, Indy.
