As we patiently await the decisions of PJ Washington, Jarred Vanderbilt and Wenyen Gabriel, let’s use this time to remind all NBA draft prospects to submit their paperwork on time if they plan to return to school next season.
Because Hamidou Diallo waited too late last year, and almost lost his eligibility because of it.
As Diallo tells it, he had a workout in Westchester, New York, on the day of the deadline. He didn’t get home until around 9 pm that night, and still had to talk to his family and Coach Cal about what he was going to do. He finally made the decision with little time to spare before midnight, and as he told Calipari his decision, Calipari was rushing him off the phone to complete the paperwork in time.
“He was ready to hang up on me,” Diallo explained to KSR. “He was telling me, ‘Go turn in the paperwork. Go turn in the paperwork.'”

“Now it’s time for me to do the paperwork, and I start doing the paperwork and time is just flying by,” he said. “So I ended up sending it by e-mail to the NBA a little bit late, but since I made the tweet out, I was fine. The NBA didn’t have a big problem with two or three minutes. I actually ended up sending it at like 12:02 (am).”
Hear Diallo tell the story:
