If you read my “major keys to success” post in regards to beating Tennessee at Rocky Top, you’ll know that the keys didn’t exactly work that time. Fortunately for you believers out there, I’ve made a few adjustments now that the Volunteers are making the trip to good ole LexVegas. This time, the keys are in our favor.
The Cats are on their home court
We all have to admit, a Kentucky game at home this season have been surrounded with slightly less hype due to the fact we seem to LOVE crushing teams on our home court (and South Carolina on theirs but anyway). Everyone loves a home court advantage, and I’m not talking about the kind Doug Sirmons likes to give. The Big Blue Nation is always loud and proud in Rupp and this gives the Cats the extra spark they need when they’re losing morale. We’re 6th man, you guys!
We have one game with them under our belt
It’s a lot easier to feel more confident against a team you’ve already played once or twice that season. Yes, Tennessee threw some wild defense and naturally were allotted 34 free throws in comparison to our 24, but the stats weren’t actually that different between the teams. UT finished at 41.1% from field goal range and the Cats finished 41.9%. Having the better shooting team will benefit us immensely again this time if we can get our foul-play under control.
Cal lit a fire under their a****
Everyone saw the South Carolina game over the weekend. Even if you weren’t watching, you stopped everything and turned on your WatchESPN app in the middle of Fayette Mall when Cal got tossed less than four minutes into the game. Most opposing teams are eager to bite the heals of the team whose coach was T’d, but UK capitalized on this one before the Gamecocks had the chance. This time against Tennessee, the Cats need to get that fire in them before Swaggy Cal has to get all riled up (over some BS calls @DOUGSIRMONS just saying).
The Breakfast Club has been in full swing

It’s all over Twitter and KSR…THE BREAKFAST CLUB IS BACK!! With the extra workouts these guys have been putting in, not to mention the bonding bonus that comes with early morning lifting, Kentucky is closer than ever. With closer teammates comes better court chemistry, and that’s something I’m confident the Cats will be able to deliver today against the Vols thanks to this classic trick.
Blue will outweigh that nasty orange
Another plus to playing in Rupp is the abundance of blue that will be on display. I, personally, would encourage everyone to wear blue to this specific game to drown out any and all gaudy orange clothing that could potentially cause blindness in our players. Again, we are 6th man BBN, we gotta take one for the team tonight.
But seriously, this guy has shown more leadership than any player we’ve seen in a WHILE and doesn’t crack under pressure. A game on his home court with plenty of preparation is one Ulis can certainly assert his dominance in.
We will score the most points
Seriously this time, it’s the only way.
Go Cats. Beat those stupid Vols.
