Stan Van Gundy quips that Cal to the Lakers would be a “step down talent-wise”

Former Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy was on Mike Bianchi’s “Open Mike” show this morning, and the two discussed the now-dead rumors that John Calipari’s going to the Lakers. Cal’s said that isn’t true and I’m sick to death of talking about it, but Van Gundy’s response to the rumor was too good not to post:

“I have no idea why he would want to go the Lakers,” Van Gundy cracked during his weekly appearance on our Open Mike radio show. “He has more NBA players (at Kentucky) this year than the Lakers do. It would be a step down talent-wise for him.

I know Kobe’s out, and he’s probably joking, but man. Cats.

I know we get defensive sometimes about people or fans talking about our team like this. We feel is raises our expectations too much. But I love it. People should know we are the dominating force in college basketball…because we are.

Love the compliment, but I don’t think the Lakers would have been the runner up this year.

Yeah, they probably would have lost to Wichita St.

Jimmy Buss has screwed up everything he has ever done, and as long as he can decide anything involving the Lakers they are heading into decades of disaster.

You know how I know you’re a sexist?

You start sentences, “You know how I know a woman…”

So your name is apropos, sir. At least you got that much right. Congratulations.

I wonder how hard it is to google John Calipari every 15 minutes and then write an article about it?

……Four words remind me of Porcini’s:

      Hard (table)

      15 (seconds)

      Article (clothing)

      It (tiny)
