Kentucky could eclipse its own record for first round draft picks which was set in 2010 with 5 first round picks… or at least that’s what Sporting News writer Sean Deveney thinks based on conversations with NBA scouts.
“If things fall right, several scouts and front office executives told Sporting News that UK should eclipse its own record…with more than six players possessing first-round talent,” Sean Deveney wrote.
One NBA GM told Deveney (speaking of Kentucky’s potential NBA first rounders), “If you just drafted that team and kept them together while they matured, they’d be the start of a pretty good NBA team in two or three seasons.”
Kentucky seems poised to at least break its own record, with 6 players figuring to have a very good chance of going in the first round of next year’s NBA draft. Willie Cauley-Stein, Dakari Johnson, Karl Towns, Andrew Harrison, Aaron Harrison and Alex Poythress all have potential– along with Trey Lyles and Marcus Lee.
