“Space Jam 2” is happening…which NBA Cats should be in it?

For people of a certain age (30ish and under?), “Space Jam” will forever hold a special place in our hearts. The 1996 hit staring the Looney Toons, Michael Jordan, and other NBA stars was a cult hit that still resonates with kids today, which is probably why today’s news that the sequel is one step closer to happening is so huge. After years of rumors, the Hollywood Reporter finally confirmed that LeBron James will star in Space Jam 2, which will be directed by Fast & Furious and Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin, who is working on a script with screenwriters Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello.

It could be a few more years before Space Jam 2 finally hits theaters, but several NBA stars already want to be involved, including Blake Griffin and Isaiah Thomas. Which NBA Cats do you think have the best chance of making the movie?

Anthony Davis is practically a Monstar already with that brow and reach, right?

Other picks:

  • Rondo as a villain
  • Boogie because Boogie
  • Karl Towns because it would be wrong to make a cartoon about basketball and not include him
  • Tyler Ulis as the new Muggsy Bogues
  • The entire 2014-2015 because they were Monstars

Your turn.

Space Jam is a horrible movie (except for Bill Murray, of course). Sequels are usually worse, so this will be downright painful. And yes, I’m of that generation.

I love the Cats, but the only cat with enough national spotlight fame would Anthony Davis. None of the other Cats are on national commercials, and the other roster spots will be filled with guys like Carmelo, Chris Paul, Curry, Durant, Wade, Nowitzki, Bryant, Blake Griffin, Kwahi Leonard, and Westbrook.

The only other two who would have a chance to break into that group are DeMarcus and Wall, but neither of them is well known enough outside of Kentucky to truly compare be considered. I base this largely national all star voting, where Wall came in 6th this year (roughly 300,000 votes behind #2 Kyle Lowery who no one can consider a star) and DeMarcus who came in 10th (or 400,000 votes behind #4 Zaza Pachulia another non-star). While you can say that local fans voted those non-stars higher than Wall and Cousins, there are a lot of national people who clearly focused on other stars.

All the other cats are too young to make a national impact. KAT will win rookie of the year, but you couldn’t say last year’s winner (Wiggins) is to a national spotlight yet. Murray, Ulis, Booker, Lyles, Willie, Bledsoe, Randle, and Noel, just don’t have the household name (although Noel’s Hair is perfect for the movie).
