South Florida reportedly working on a buyout for Orlando Antigua

sp_antigua040214_12877613_8col

Bad news to start the day for one our favorite assistant coaches. According to New Mexico basketball blog The Lobo Lair, South Florida is working on a buyout for head coach Orlando Antigua.

The report follows a troubling few weeks for South Florida, which is now under NCAA investigation for academic fraud. Orlando’s brother, Oliver, is an assistant at USF and resigned the day the report about the NCAA investigation came out, but it doesn’t look like it was enough to save Orlando, who took the job at South Florida in 2014 after six seasons on John Calipari’s staff. In two seasons at South Florida, Antigua has a 16-47 record, including a 7-24 mark last year.

The Lobo Lair also lists former UNLV coach David Rice and former Virginia Tech coach turned ESPN analyst Seth Greenberg as potential candidates to replace Antigua.

How could he get rehired? In the words of Cal
himself, ” he had to know”. This would be a bad
    look considering his recent comments.

I never really thought South Florida was that great of a job to begin with. Cal says to take a job that you can win your conference or you think you can win your conference… I think that would be hard to do at USF.

I would love to have him back, but I wonder how that would look with this NCAA investigation?

I’m sure Orlando is thinking…”man I should have stayed at Kentucky”.

As with any NCAA investigation, USF is probably 2 years away from any real decision on the allegations. But, the last thing we need is a coach being looked at for violations. I’m sure Sandy Bell would cringe if there was even a hint that Orlando would be hired.

“Cards Paws”, I’m sure you and your fans struggled with getting our hand-me-down coach when Pitino came to U of L.

Maybe she did cringe when they told her they want Cal here. Maybe she then did her research and realized that there was nothing to cringe about, just as Matt found out as well.

I don’t recall Cal himself having NCAA penalties.

Cal must have not taught him how to cover this stuff up and keep yourself out of it.

Cal has nothing to cover up, so why would he teach others to cover anything up? Speaking of covering up, have they covered the ceilings at Minardi yet?
