South Carolina remained perfect in the Southeastern Conference last night with a big win over previously unbeaten Florida in Columbia. The 24th-ranked Gamecocks, who will come to Rupp Arena to meet the Cats in two days, held No. 19 Florida to a season-low 53 points in the game. The Gators hadn’t been held to under 65 points all season prior to Wednesday night.
The win moved Carolina to 12-0 on the year when Sindarius Thornwell is in the lineup. The standout guard was suspended six games in December for an unspecified violation and his team went 3-3 in his absence. Thornwell had 20 of the Gamecocks’ 57 points in last night’s win, 15 of those coming in the second half.
Afterwards, Thornwell told reporters,”Before the game, I was saying these are the games you prepare for in your backyard growing up.”
He likely feels the same about Saturday’s game against your fifth-ranked Wildcats.
